Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

- Balances traditional credit underwriting expertise with predictive analytics including AI-assisted decision-making, ensuring optimal risk assessment and efficiency.
- Utilizes predictive analytics, AI-driven risk modeling, and alternative credit data to enhance underwriting decision accuracy and efficiency.
- Interprets and applies insights from predictive analytics and AI-driven underwriting models, leveraging alternative credit data sources beyond traditional FICO scores.
- Participates in digital transformation initiatives, ensuring smooth integration of predictive analytics and AI-powered decisioning tools into underwriting workflows.
- Experience with predictive analytics and AI-powered loan origination platforms, data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau), and alternative credit assessment methodologies.
- Evaluate and underwrite consumer loan applications, including auto loans, recreational vehicle loans, motorcycles, unsecured loans, credit cards, and solar loans, within assigned lending authority.
- Analyze consumer credit reports for consumer lending applications to evaluate risk and make appropriate credit decisions for Direct and Indirect channels across multiple states, or geographic regions.
- Reviews documents to support credit decision (verification of income, tax returns, personal financial statement, trusts and additional supporting documentation, e
- Formulates and communicates credit decision (approve, decline, or counter-offer) in compliance with established underwriting guidelines, compliance and regulatory requirements.
- Provides guidance and feedback to internal or external stakeholders to maximize production and manage risk.
- Develops business relationships and build rapports with members to achieve mutual goals across multiple states and geographic regions.
- Assists/coaches/mentors less experienced underwriters with structuring loans to maximize production and manage risk.
- Conducts monthly audits of credit decisions and/or loan files for document accuracy and credit quality.
- Provides superior quality service to internal and external members at all times and demonstrates professional demeanor.
- Reviews credit applications and recommends decisions on applications their assigned authority to the Manager and Vice President of Consumer Lending.
- Provide exceptional service to external and internal members while demonstrating extensive knowledge of the credit union’s direct and indirect lending programs.
- Develop alliances to produce incremental loan business and create cross-selling opportunities.
- Keep current with knowledge of the credit union’s lending updates, criteria, guidelines, procedures, policies, and processes in order to make sounds lending decisions.
- Develop and maintain relationships with branch and other credit union employees through open and professional communication while consistently providing expected service levels.
- Communicate with branch staff and management to gather information to make appropriate decisions.
- Provides underwriting guidance to branches and other credit union staff and clearly explains reasons for stipulation or denying the loan request. Partner with other Consumer Loan Underwriter on loan review to maintain good loan performance and enhance independent loan review skills.
Qualifications
Education and/or Experience:
College degree in Business or Finance or equivalent work experience is preferred.
Minimum of seven years financial industry experience with a minimum of five years of consumer lending underwriting.
Experience in credit risk analysis of military borrowers is preferred.
Salary Range: $ 33.59 - $50.38
