What are the responsibilities and job description for the Acoustic Design Engineer position at Frore Systems?
Frore Systems, an innovative startup in Silicon Valley, CA has developed a new disruptive solid-state active cooling solution, AirJet®, based on flexible micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS). AirJet® by Frore Systems is the world’s first solid-state cooling chip, delivering >2x improvement in performance of ultra-compact, silent, dustproof, water-resistant and vibration-free devices. In a world where almost every device we own needs increasing power, heat is an enduring challenge. The problem is rapidly escalating as technology advances, AI accelerates and users demand more speed and convenience in smaller and smaller devices which generate more and more heat.
The markets that benefit from Frore Systems solid-state active cooling chips range from the edge – notebooks, tablets, mini-PCs, gaming devices, action cameras, VR, AR, SSD accessories, smartphones, LED lighting, industrial edge gateways, industrial PCs, security cameras, dashcams, etc. – to hyperscaler and automotive applications.
We are in the unique position of being first to market with an innovative solution to a large and rapidly growing industry challenge. We are seeking a highly skilled Acoustics Design Engineer with a strong background in designing, modeling and testing acoustic performance in edge devices.
The candidate will be enabling the R&D team to continuously improve the acoustic performance of Airjet designs and products. The candidate will also work with the systems team to engineer the best integration approaches for Airjet devices and ensure the stability of acoustic performance.
Responsibilities:
- Characterize acoustic properties of MEMS products.
- Design for low noise products.
- Develop vibro-acoustic models to understand and suppress noise sources and transmission.
- Use simulation tools to predict acoustic properties of next-generation MEMS products.
- Identify sources of acoustic degradation and inform design improvements.
- Identify, analyze and reduce noise in system integration
Qualifications:
- BS/MS/PhD in Acoustics, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
- 5 years of direct experience with consumer audio products.
- Experience with acoustic design using computational models.
- Solid understanding of acoustic measurement systems and signal processing techniques.
- Experience with acoustic test equipment such as free-field microphone, contact microphone, audio analyzer etc.
- Knowledge of psychoacoustics and sound quality metrics.
- Commitment to understanding and resolving noise sources to the tiniest detail
- Passion for solving problems in a fast-paced startup environment.
- Ability to hear above 14kHz. This ability will be determined during the interview process with an audiogram test
