Frost Brown Todd LLP, a national law firm with 1000 legal and business professionals in eighteen offices, is hiring a full-time eDiscovery Technology Manager to join our firm. This role is responsible for managing both internal and external legal technology platforms and overseeing the daily operations and workflows of the Litigation Support eDiscovery Analysts and Specialists. The eDiscovery Technology Manager will also provide consultation, training, and strategic guidance to legal teams and clients throughout the discovery process, ensuring defensibility, efficiency, and adherence to the Electronic Discovery Reference Model (EDRM) and firm policies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise eDiscovery Analysts and Litigation Support Specialists, managing staffing, project assignments, and performance evaluations.
- Provide strategic consultation and analysis to attorneys and business professionals throughout all phases of the eDiscovery process.
- Utilize Relativity One and other e-discovery tools to load, process, analyze, search and produce litigation documents following FRCP, DOJ Production Specifications, ESI agreements and discovery requests. Leverage Relativity One Analytics and Artificial Intelligence tools to reduce document review volumes and costs.
- Assist case teams and document review attorneys with onboarding, operating and troubleshooting of e-discovery database platforms.
- Perform billable litigation support tasks, such as client consultation on data mapping, legal holds, ESI preservation, collection and validation, data processing and analysis, flat-table data manipulation, document review consultation, and document productions. Ensure time is entered into the billing system daily. Estimated billable time for this position will be 400-500 hours per year, with the remaining time to be administrative management of technical platforms and litigation support staff.
- Train litigation support staff on EDRM best practices including planning, preservation, processing, and database setup.
- Coordinate workflows and provide project updates to case teams and clients’ IT departments to manage expectations.
- Advise legal teams on cost estimates for forensic vendor tasks, data hosting platforms, and other eDiscovery-related costs. Work with vendors to ensure adherence to spending caps, stop-limits, and change order approvals.
- Track project progress, manage deadlines and budgets, and maintain preservation logs and tracking systems in MS Teams.
- Collaborate with the FBT legal team and the client’s IT department to create data maps identifying potential source locations and preservation statuses.
- Implement technology and best practices across multiple offices to effectively support the litigation practice and ensure the Litigation Support Department aligns with firm policies and business goals.
- Consult with legal teams to provide in-depth guidance on e-discovery issues.
- Manage data transfer and storage systems, adhering to firm information governance and matter tracking policies.
- Partner with the Litigation Support Director to improve workflows, implement quality control, and develop firm-wide training programs.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree required; JD preferred.
- Minimum of five years of experience working in Legal Technology and managing Document Review Platforms is required.
- Minimum of ten years of experience working in large law firms or at an eDiscovery vendor preferred.
- Minimum of two years management experience.
- Relativity - RCA (Relativity Certified Administrator) certification preferred.
- ACEDS CEDS (Certified E-Discovery Specialist) certification preferred.
- Experience with Technology-Assisted Review and Predictive Coding preferred.
- Strong analytical skills and techniques for managing projects containing electronically stored information (ESI), including utilizing Relativity Managed Review and Analytics.
- Strong problem-solving, organizational and planning skills.
- Strong verbal, written, analytical and interpersonal skills necessary to interact in an effective and professional manner with a diverse group of clients, attorneys, staff and outside vendors and consultants.
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
- Experience capturing web sites, on-line videos, video editing and general graphics is a strong plus.
- Experience managing on-premise and cloud-based relation databases such as SQL and IDOL.
- Experience using Regular Expressions and DTSearch to manipulate large data sets.
- Experience managing and troubleshooting relational databases for document review platforms such as Everlaw, Relativity, Ipro, or Autonomy.
- Knowledge of document review database structures and an understanding of how to ensure the integrity and defensibility of unstructured and structured data.
- Ability to handle multiple projects, organize and prioritize issues and workload, and a proven ability to manage time and resources in order to meet deadlines.
- Ability to adapt to changing work situations, grasp and apply new ideas, and be able to communicate with various personalities at all levels of management and staff in solving problems quickly and effectively.
- Ability to travel within the firm’s footprint and work extended hours, including nights and weekends.
