Under general supervision, installs, services and repairs a variety of residential and commercial heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVAC) equipment. Mechanics at this level install and service residential and commercial heat pumps and industrial centralized air conditioning systems up to 100 tons. Systems may contain several zones.
HVAC Mechanic I
Frostburg State University, Physical Plant Department, seeks applications for a full-time, non-exempt HVAC Mechanic I position. Hourly rate $25.45; University System of Maryland benefits package included.
Responsibilities : Under general supervision, install, service, and repair a variety of residential and commercial heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC) equipment. Mechanics at this level install and service residential and commercial heat pumps and industrial centralized air conditioning systems up to 100 tons. Systems may contain several zones.
Minimum Qualifications : High school diploma or GED. Four years progressively responsible experience in the air conditioning / refrigeration trade. Must possess an EPA Universal Refrigeration Certification. Valid non-commercial driver's license. Successful completion of pre-employment physical examination.
Other : Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.
Preferred Qualifications : Thorough knowledge of commercial HVAC systems (chillers, boilers, AHU's, DX units, etc.); pneumatic and DDC controls; air and water distribution systems (ductwork, fans, piping, pumps, etc.); and preventative maintenance requirements. Residential and commercial project layout experience. HVAC and / or related licensing (plumbing, stationary engineering, electrical, etc.). Good communication skills. Basic computer skills.
