Publication Relations Specialist
Frostburg State University Marketing and Communications Department seeks applications for an exempt full-time Publication Relations Specialist. Salary is competitive and includes the robust University System of Maryland benefits package options.
Reporting to the Director of Communications, the Publication Relations Specialist will work with students, alumni and University departments around campus to tell the story of Frostburg State University. This position will play a vital role in creating engaging and informative content to promote FSU and its programs; highlight its students, faculty, staff and alumni; and work closely with others in the Department of Marketing and Communications to brainstorm and develop ideas and coordinate content creation efforts. This position will research relevant topics, conduct interviews, and write stories of the University community for use through a variety of channels and platforms, including social media, web and marketing materials, as well as a primary contributor to Profile. The position will also help direct and supervise videography to help tell the story of FSU, as well as marketing videos to promote the Unviersity from pre-production to post-production.
Responsibilities:
- Research, write and edit high-quality content to achieve maximum reach with various constituencies, including campus departments, donors, alumni and the community.
- Build and maintain key relationships within the University community to help cultivate stories of University constituents.
- Serve as a primary contributor to Profile Magazine
- Interview campus members to find and develop stories.
- Direct, produce and script video, including stories of campus constituents and marketing videos for promotional use through advertising, social media and web site.
- Assist with writing and editing for the web site and social media.
- Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
The successful candidate will possess the following skills and experience:
- Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in communications and video production.
- Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
- Knowledge of journalism, public relations and communications practices.
- Excellent writing, editing and evaluation of content, structure and format for various written materials.
- Ability to use independent judgment and to gather, manage and impart information to the media and various other constituents.
- Experience and expertise in feature and story development.
- Understanding of donor relations and advancement strategies to direct and create content.
- Commitment to the ideals of a higher education institution.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in public relations, journalism, English, marketing or related field.
- Minimum 10 years of related experience of increasingly responsible experience in communications and video direction/production.
- Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in communications strategy.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in
public relations, journalism, English, marketing or related field.
- Work experience directly related to higher education.
