Senior Accountant

Our client, a mission-driven nonprofit organization, is seeking a Senior Accountant to play a key role in financial management and reporting. In this role, you will support the Controller in overseeing daily accounting processes, ensuring financial accuracy, and maintaining compliance with nonprofit fiscal policies. As a Senior Accountant, you will be responsible for managing financial operations, ensuring accuracy in reporting, and supporting the organization’s financial health. Your core responsibilities include:
- Monitor and validate daily cash receipts and disbursements, ensuring timely postings onto ERP system.
- Prepare daily cash reports and track financial transactions.
- Leading month-end closing activities, including payables, and expense reports, receipts, revenue and collections.
- Review and post monthly billing accruals
- Perform joint cost allocation analysis and prepare adjusting journal entries.
- Upload, analyze, and post payroll entries twice a month.
- Reconcile tax liabilities with bank entries and ensuring compliance with multi-jurisdiction tax regulations for a few states.
- Analyze balance sheet accounts, preparing reconciliation schedules, and ensuring alignment with the GL.
- Validate expenses, ensuring they comply with contractual obligations.
- Maintain the GL, insurance, contracts, banking and fixed asset records.
- Assist with annual 1099 reporting and supporting annual state compliance reports.
- Perform bank, investment, and financial reconciliations.
- Prepare journal entries for accruals, deferrals, and financial adjustments, including, but not limited to salaries, PTO, depreciation, insurance, and contract settlements.
- Monitor positive pay transactions and ensure deposits, credits, and direct debits are recorded accurately.
- Promote transparency and fiscal accountability, ensure compliance with nonprofit financial policies and funding requirements.
- Support system improvements, identify inefficiencies, and implement corrective actions.
- Assist the Controller in quarterly financial training sessions and contract performance reviews.
- Provide support for contract reviews and annual financial audits.
- Assist the payroll team with processing and accounting transactions when necessary.
- Handle special projects and additional tasks, as assigned.
Requirements
We are looking for an experienced and detail-oriented accounting professional with a strong understanding of nonprofit financial management. The ideal candidate will have:
- A bachelor’s degree in accounting (certification is a plus).
- 4 years of relevant accounting experience in a nonprofit organization with an $18MM operating budget, or 6 years as a full-cycle accountant.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and government audit standards.
- Advanced proficiency in ERP systems and Microsoft Office-Excel and Word.
- A passion for accuracy, completeness, and timeliness in financial reporting.
- The ability to interpret and communicate financial concepts to individuals at all levels.
Salary : $87,300 - $109,700
