Job description Fruitland Area Fire Protection District Position Announcement Firefighter Medical Responder The Fruitland Area Fire Protection District is seeking qualified applicants for a hiring list for future openings as a FirefighterMedical Responder to perform the following duties : respond to fire alarms, medical emergencies and other requests for emergency assistance; connection and deployment of hose lines; make entry into burning buildings with the appropriate hose line; direct streams of water onto a fire; raises and lowers ladders; makes forcible entry into buildings; participates in fire prevention and information to the public of fire hazards; participates in training activities; maintain stations, apparatus, and equipment; performs other related work as required; works on rotating 24-hour shifts for an average of 53 hours per week. Applicants must : be at least 18 years of age; possess a valid driver's license; possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent; and have documented Basic Firefighter Training. Preferred Certification(s) : Possession Missouri or National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) license, and Firefighter I and II, Missouri andor National 1001 Standard IFSAC andor Pro Board approved certification. The testing process consists of : a written examination that may include material designed to measure mechanical comprehension, spatial orientation, an understanding of illustrated materials, behavioral skills, basic arithmetic, and reading and writing abilities, a physical agility test graded passfail that consists of a series of tests to determine the applicant's ability to perform critical physical tasks necessary for the position of firefighter, and an oral interview designed to evaluate a candidate's experience, training and personal qualifications. Prior to employment, eligible applicants will be subject to a physical examination, drug screen, interviews, and thorough background investigations including E-Verify. Successful applicants will serve in a one-year probationary period, which includes a supervised probationary study program. In addition, a probationary Firefighter will be required to obtain a Firefighter I and II Missouri andor National 1001 Standard IFSAC andor Pro Board approved certification within one year of date of hire. We do have a residency requirement for our firefighters. Firefighters must live within 100 miles of District Headquarters.
