Description
The primary responsibility of a Pharmacy Technician with Fruth Pharmacy is to provide excellent care for our customers and patients by satisfying each customers needs, exceeding their expectations, and making every Fruth Pharmacy visit a pleasant and satisfying experience. All pharmacy technicians are responsible for providing customer service and assisting the pharmacist(s) in filling prescriptions, entering information into the PDX computer system, ordering and receiving product, checking in orders, stocking, record keeping, answering telephone calls, and maintaining the overall conditions of the pharmacy department as defined in the Fruth Corporate Policies & Procedures and applicable state regulations. This requires accurately and efficiently operating the cash register (when required), providing various services at the pharmacy service counter, and maintaining security and control of all funds, medications, and confidential patient information near the cash register, in the pharmacy, and immediate area.
- Receive written prescriptions brought to the pharmacy or telephoned refill requests.
- Make sure all needed patient information is collected on new written prescriptions or telephoned refill requests.
- Answer telephone and handle questions that do not require a pharmacists professional judgment or expertise.
- Enter data into the computer and record information needed before prescriptions can be dispensed.
- Process prescriptions in a timely order and manner so as to best take care of patient needs.
- Store written prescription forms after prescriptions are dispensed and keep organized.
- Help pharmacists prepare prescriptions by counting or pouring medications, labeling containers, and pricing prescriptions.
- Keep pharmacy department supplies (e.g., vials, bottles, bags, receipts, staples, tape, etc.) well stocked.
- Place complete prescriptions in the pickup area.
- Order, check-in and stock the pharmacy department shelves with medications when they arrive from suppliers.
- Help maintain inventory controls by checking on-hand quantity and cycle counts.
- Identify and process out of date items.
- Prepare insurance claims and verify payments.
- Help patients find over-the-counter medications.
- Stock over-the-counter departments.
- Ring purchases on cash registers and record them in the logs that required by securing proper signatures.
- Perform housekeeping duties within the pharmacy department.
- Work closely with pharmacists and other technicians. Also work with cashiers, clerks, trainees, and other store personnel.
- Work with patients, patients caregivers, prescribers and their office personnel, and with suppliers to the pharmacy.
- Maintain and keep patient information with the HIPAA guidelines.
Qualifications
Must work in this capacity to complete the requirements for the Pharmacy Technician or Technician Trainee per state/federal requirement.
