Position: 1.0 School Counselor- Long Term Substitute
Assignment Location: Fort Couch Middle School
Contract Start Date: Thru the remainder of the 2024-2025 school year
Summary: To provide a comprehensive school counseling program for students in grades 7-8 and specifically provide activities to meet the academic, social-emotional, and career development needs of the assigned caseload; consult with teachers, staff and parents to enhance their effectiveness in helping students; and provide support to other middle school educational programs. A successful school counselor possesses mindsets in accordance with professional standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Other duties may be assigned.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate various counseling programs and instruction in conjunction with department goals and professional standards to individual students, small groups, classrooms, and large groups.
- Teach the approved curriculum via regularly scheduled classroom lessons.
- Deliver preventative and responsive services to students demonstrating academic and/or behavioral concerns and recommend students and families to appropriate resources.
- Provide responsive services to students in crisis.
- Participate in the Student Assistance Program Team.
- Lead and assist with departmental initiatives and programs.
- Consult with teachers, staff, and parents regarding meeting the developmental needs of students.
- Maintain accurate, complete and correct records and prepare reports as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations.
- Participate in the development and implementation of services for students with disabilities.
- Develop and deliver evening information sessions for parents to support the school-wide counseling program.
- Assist in conducting assessment and evaluation programs, including state-wide and district-wide testing.
- Attend and participate in departmental and district meetings as scheduled.
- Contribute to the curriculum development process.
- Apply legal and ethical decision-making skills.
- Seek professional consultation and supervision when needed.
- Perform cafeteria and other duty assignments.
Education and/or Experience:
Master’s degree in counseling required. Minimum one year experience as a school counselor preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Educational Specialist certificate in school counseling (K-12).
Other Skills and Abilities:
- Apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs.
- Effectively plan and implement lessons based on school objectives and the needs and abilities of students.
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and School Board policies.
- Ability to use technical hardware and software.
