Position: Middle School Musical Scenic Artist- ECA

Location: Fort Couch

Dates of Assignment: March – May as determined by Middle School Musical Director

Reports to: Middle School Musical Director

Summary:

The Upper St. Clair School District is seeking an energetic, motivated and team-oriented Scenic Artist to join the Fort Couch Middle School production staff. 

Responsibilities: 

•  Interpreting design renderings.
•  Mix color based on designer renderings and color-matching based on existing pieces.
•  Creation of pounces and stencils.
•  Base, primary, and finish painting of all hard pieces of scenery.
•  Sculpting and carving of organic foam shapes.
•  Laying out and painting of backdrops either upright on a paint frame or painted flat on a stage.
•  Assist the props or crafts department on specialty paint projects as requested.
•  Touch-up and maintenance of all completed projects.
•  Assist in organization and maintenance of workspaces and tools.
•  Maintain a clean and safe workspace.
• Ability to work within a group. 
• Attend production meetings with musical staff. 
• Assist with strike and cleanup of all facilities, materials and equipment within two days of the performance. 

Qualifications: 

• Degree in Theater Arts with a focus on scenic painting and/or experience in a similar position, is preferred
• Experience working in high school and middle school theater programs is a plus.
• Must possess exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, be accommodating and adaptable and have excellent team-building capabilities. 
• Required skills include demonstrated proficiency and knowledge of painting techniques, interpreting design renderings, knowledge of color mixing. 
• Strong collaboration skills are also essential.
