About FTI’s Strategic Communications Segment

We provide our clients with a comprehensive view of strategic communications that leverages our integrated suite of services, including crisis management, litigation communications, financial communications, corporate reputation, transaction communications and public affairs in all the major markets around the world.

 

About The Role

We are currently looking for a communications professional to join FTI’s Strategic Communications growing Brazil team as a Senior Consultant, based in our office in São Paulo. For the role, you should have the ability to both service client companies and contribute to new business and firm development initiatives. The Senior Consultant is expected to work on various projects simultaneously across our different service offerings, including crisis communications, sustainability & ESG, public & government affairs, reputation building, financial communications and change management. Given the diverse nature of the work, we are looking for someone proactive, eager to learn  with a go-getter mentality and who is willing to work across different subjects, offerings and industries. In line with our tailored approach to servicing clients, the ideal candidate will be able to understand client needs and help formulate a comprehensive strategic communications approach that combines our different services.

 

The Senior Consultant will be expected to work independently, under the direction of senior team members. The role requires  excellent written and verbal communications skills, and an ability to help manage more junior team members. As many of the clients are not based in Brazil, the position requires full professional fluency  in English (speaking and writing). This is a hybrid role, the Senior Consultant will be expected to be at the office at least three times a week (Mondays to Wednesdays), and in-person meetings with clients may happen, occasionally. Attendance of external events and short-term travel may also be required occasionally.

 

What You'll Do

The Senior Consultant will collaborate with client teams to develop and implement communication strategies that help drive the client’s objectives. This role requires an ability to develop an understanding of the client’s challenges and opportunities, and quickly build knowledge on sector-specific, macroeconomic, business and political factors relevant to the client. The role also requires analytical skills to assess these trends and translate their implications into actionable strategies for the client. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: 

Client Delivery

  • Play a central role in the day-to-day account management of multiple clients;
  • Help manage project deliverables to ensure deadlines are met effectively;
  • Work with team members to create high-quality, client-ready deliverables in a timely and efficient manner;
  • Consistently seek ways to improve client service and experience;
  • Confidently communicate with clients on a regular basis via email, phone calls and in-person meetings;
  • Draft a variety of communications materials (e.g., strategic memos, press releases, presentations, stakeholder mapping, position and policy papers, emails, media reports, media pitches, social media posts, communications plans, briefings, and internal communications content, etc.) in a timely and efficient manner;
  • Master understanding of client information, including business strategy, services, stakeholders and political, economic and competitive landscape;
  • Assist with the measurement of the team’s progress against client objectives, including the development of KPIs and progress reports.

Business Development

  • Maintain solid relationships with clients and identify opportunities to add value
  • Contribute to new business planning and development efforts, which could include conducting preliminary research for pursuits, drafting proposals and pitching FTI’s services;
  • Build a relationship network with experts in other FTI offices to position the Brazilian team’s capabilities; and
  • Support the development, production and marketing of thought leadership surrounding emerging trends and issues.

Team Development

  • Willingness to take responsibility for outcomes and to assist others when needed;
  • Help to mentor and provide constructive feedback; to more junior team members
  • Effectively manage competing demands for time;
  • Identify resource needs and work with managers to assign individual and group responsibilities;
  • Demonstrate a high level of integrity and ask the necessary questions to manage company and client data responsibly; and
  • Demonstrate confidence to manage up and down in a respectful and constructive manner.

What You Will Need To Succeed  

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years of work experience in corporate communications, media relations, public relations, public affairs or related field;
  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Public Relations, International Relations, Political Science, Law, Economics or related;
  • Full professional fluency  in English is required (speaking and writing);
  • Advanced research, writing and editing skills;
  • A strong work ethic and an ability to be a self-starter;
  • A collaborative team player with the ability to work independently, take initiative and set priorities; and
  • Ability to attend to client meetings, events and to work at FTI office in São Paulo. Travels outside São Paulo may be required but will not be frequent for this position. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven project management skills and the ability to proactively support/counsel key client relationships;
  • Strong time and priority management skills and an ability to effectively juggle multiple client demands;
  • Desire and ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasking, deadline-oriented dynamic environment with regular change;
  • Proficiency in PowerPoint, Excel and Word;
  • Spanish knowledge is a plus;
  • Track record of driving corporate communications programs for regional, national and international clients;
  • Strong media relations experience, working with regional and top-tier national media
  • Applied social media expertise;
  • New business development skills (strategy, lead generation, proposal development, etc.); and
  • Crisis, stakeholder and issues management experience.
