Position Overview:
The Director of Purchasing will be responsible for leading the purchasing department and managing the procurement of materials, supplies, and services for our homebuilding projects. This leadership position will play a critical role in driving cost savings, improving efficiency, and ensuring the timely availability of high-quality materials while working closely with construction, estimating, and project management teams. The ideal candidate will bring experience in managing purchasing operations in the construction or homebuilding industry and a solid understanding of procurement software, preferably NewStar.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership: Lead and oversee the day-to-day operations of the purchasing department, developing and executing procurement strategies that align with company objectives and support the timely delivery of projects.
- Supplier Management: Establish and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers, negotiate contracts, and ensure favorable pricing, delivery terms, and quality standards.
- Cost Management: Monitor and manage purchasing budgets, ensuring cost-effective solutions while maintaining the high-quality standards required for homebuilding projects.
- Procurement Systems Management: Utilize NewStar (or similar ERP systems) to manage and track purchasing activities, inventory, order fulfillment, and vendor performance.
- Team Development: Lead and mentor the purchasing team, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations to enhance their capabilities and foster a high-performing department.
- Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, estimators, and construction teams to ensure the availability of materials as required and troubleshoot any supply chain challenges.
- Process Improvement: Continuously assess and improve purchasing processes to ensure efficiency, accuracy, and compliance with company policies and industry regulations.
- Risk Management: Identify and mitigate risks related to material shortages, price volatility, or supply chain disruptions that may impact project timelines and budgets.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Construction Management, or a related field. Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Purchasing Manager, CPM) are a plus.
- Experience: At least 7-10 years of experience in purchasing or procurement, with at least 3 years in a leadership role, ideally within the homebuilding or construction industry.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with procurement software; experience with NewStar ERP system is highly preferred.
- Leadership: Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop a team, with strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to negotiate effectively and build strong relationships with internal teams and external suppliers.
- Analytical Abilities: Strong analytical skills, with the ability to evaluate data, manage budgets, and track purchasing metrics to drive decisions.
- Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with industry-specific construction materials, supply chains, and procurement practices.

Pay: $130,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
