Objective:
Take full ownership of the drafting function for the organization and its affiliated entities. This role is integral in ensuring that new products are developed and delivered on schedule, meeting high standards of accuracy and compliance with internal specifications. The individual in this position will be responsible for the design oversight of all product plans, ensuring they adhere to rigorous quality guidelines. Additionally, the Drafting Lead will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment and seamless coordination across all departments involved in the product development process.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan Management & Coordination:
- Organize and maintain current base plans within the community plan library, ensuring accuracy and consistency across projects.
- Work closely with external consultants to uphold structural guidelines and design standards.
- Regularly update and manage standard options in the plan portfolio.
- Review and address plan change requests with key internal stakeholders; any changes must be approved by the appropriate managers.
- Product Development & Enhancement:
- Collaborate with senior leadership to develop new product lines and potential product enhancements.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure product timelines align with sales and community releases.
- Design & Rendering:
- Create, review, and refine floor plan layouts and renderings for marketing purposes, collaborating directly with the Marketing Department for web or sales materials.
- Oversee plan submittals and permit processes, ensuring smooth transitions between stages of design, permitting, and construction.
- Value Engineering & Cost Optimization:
- Engage in value engineering during both design and maintenance stages to optimize costs while maintaining design integrity.
- Collaborate with the purchasing group to identify cost-saving opportunities and design enhancements.
- Project Coordination & Reporting:
- Ensure project timelines are met for new community releases and phases, in alignment with sales and construction teams.
- Maintain up-to-date square footage reports for costing and marketing purposes.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Act as the key point of contact for plan modifications, ensuring standards and details are adhered to before release.
- Work closely with design teams to incorporate new elements and products into community plans.
- General Support:
- Perform other duties as required to support team goals and project requirements.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Experience & Skills:
- Construction background with a solid understanding of building codes and best practices.
- Experience with Revit and/or Chief Architect is a plus; exceptional AutoCAD proficiency is required.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively across teams to meet project goals.
- Solution-oriented mindset, with the ability to adapt to changing priorities.
- Education & Qualifications:
- A four-year degree is preferred but not mandatory.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Full-time, Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend work as needed to meet project deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, along with exceptional attention to detail.
- Physical ability to work in an office setting and occasionally on-site at homesites, including lifting light office supplies.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Design & Rendering Creation:
- Develop 2D and 3D renderings of initial concepts.
- Prepare Permit Set packages, including construction details.
- Assist with energy compliance assessments in line with regulatory requirements.
- Consultant Coordination:
- Support coordination efforts with external project consultants.
- Help ensure the accuracy of permit sets and required documentation.
- Design Options & Marketing Support:
- Develop design options and assist with maintaining marketing renderings.
- Stay current with construction techniques and architectural design practices.
- Equipment Use & Team Support:
- Utilize office equipment, including plotters, copiers, printers, and scanners.
- Contribute to the overall success of the team by supporting various tasks as needed.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $65,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
