Electrical Controls Engineering Technician III
Location: Primarily in Wilmington, NC. May require travel to other plants in Midland, Winston-Salem, and Hickory. While most work will be in Wilmington, travel may be needed to support various projects.
Qualifications:
- Education: AAS in Mechanical Engineering Technology, BS in Mechanical Engineering Technology, or BS in Mechanical Engineering (Equivalent work experience may be considered in rare circumstances.)
- Experience: Minimum 3 years in a related role.
Top 3 Skills:
- Experience in hands-on installation support for new or modified production equipment.
- Expertise in troubleshooting, process start-up, and documentation of mechanical and electrical systems for production equipment.
- Ability to supervise internal maintenance and contract trades during equipment installation, demolition, testing, and debugging.
Required Software Skills:
- AutoCAD
- MS Office
Purpose of Position:
- Perform hands-on installation support for new or modified production equipment.
- Supervise and direct internal maintenance and contract trades for installation and conversion projects, including demolition, construction, and debugging.
- Troubleshoot, start up, design, and document electrical and controls systems for new or modified equipment.
- Update documentation such as drawing packages, checklists, parts lists, and machine specs.
- Evaluate the condition and usability of existing equipment for integration into new projects.
Major Responsibilities:
- Execute initial equipment setup and debugging before turnover to operations.
- Provide second-level troubleshooting and replace defective components as needed.
- Procure and expedite materials for new or modified equipment.
- Develop and oversee electrical installation checklists and schedules.
- Direct maintenance personnel and contract trades in equipment fabrication, testing, and installation.
- Update installation documentation and schematics as necessary.
- Configure machine controls for digital and analog I/O.
- Redline schematics and oversee drafting services as needed.
- Train maintenance personnel and contract trades on installation procedures.
- Optimize equipment installation practices to improve efficiency and schedules.
Desired Skills & ExperienceEducation Required:
- AAS in Electrical Engineering Technology, BS in Electrical Engineering Technology, or BS in Electrical Engineering (Equivalent work experience may be considered in rare circumstances.)
Experience Required:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a related field.

- Knowledge of process variables (flow, temperature, pressure, level).
- Understanding of control loops and serial communication (RS232, RS485, Ethernet).
- Experience with machine control and classical control theory.
Preferred Equipment & Software Experience:
- Windows, MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), AutoCAD 2023, AutoCAD Electrical 2023.
- PLC and PC-based systems (Allen-Bradley, Beckhoff PLC/Motion Control, B&R Control, Fanuc Robotics).
- Programming experience (C , Visual Basic, iFix).
- Experience with automated equipment systems.
Equipment Familiarization Preferred:
- Fluke meters, oscilloscopes, and other test equipment.
- Electronic calibration and precision flow calibration tools.
- Programmable controllers.
- Installation equipment (man lifts, label makers, hand tools).
Additional Position Information:
- The team is based in Wilmington, NC, with the initial project located there.
- High-performing contractors may be considered for future assignments, which may require travel to other locations.
- Hours vary; overtime is not guaranteed but 10-20 hours per week is common and expected at times.
Job Types: Full-time, Contract
Pay: $42.41 - $46.41 per hour
