What are the responsibilities and job description for the Purchasing Agent/Estimator position at FTS Inc?
Key Responsibilities:
- Purchasing & Procurement:
- Manage the procurement process for residential construction projects, ensuring timely delivery of materials and supplies within budget.
- Build and maintain relationships with suppliers, subcontractors, and vendors to secure competitive pricing, availability, and quality.
- Negotiate contracts and terms with suppliers and vendors to achieve cost-effective solutions without compromising on quality.
- Coordinate with project managers and superintendents to align material schedules with project timelines.
- Monitor and maintain inventory levels, ensuring material availability for ongoing projects.
- Estimating:
- Prepare accurate cost estimates for residential construction projects, including labor, materials, and other project-related expenses.
- Analyze blueprints, specifications, and project requirements to generate detailed and precise estimates.
- Collaborate with project managers and design teams to identify potential cost-saving opportunities and value engineering solutions.
- Track and document project cost changes, change orders, and revisions to maintain accurate budget records.
- Project Coordination:
- Assist project managers in managing budgets, timelines, and procurement needs for ongoing projects.
- Monitor project costs against estimates and adjust as necessary to ensure projects stay on track financially.
- Provide support for change order management and assist with contract administration as needed.
- Risk Management & Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with company policies, industry standards, and legal requirements in all purchasing and estimating activities.
- Identify potential risks in procurement and estimating processes and develop strategies to mitigate them.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Business Administration, or a related field (preferred).
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in purchasing, estimating, or a related field, with a focus on residential construction.
- Strong knowledge of construction materials, building codes, and industry best practices.
- Proven experience in cost estimating and negotiating with vendors and suppliers.
- Familiarity with residential construction software (e.g., Procore, Buildertrend, or similar tools).
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative team environment.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $80,000.00 - $93,000.00 per year
