Job Description:
The Purchasing Agent will be responsible for managing the procurement of materials, supplies, and services needed for residential construction projects. This individual will play a key role in ensuring that projects run smoothly by sourcing quality materials, negotiating prices, and maintaining effective vendor relationships. The ideal candidate is highly organized, has strong communication skills, and understands the residential construction process.
Key Responsibilities:
- Material Procurement: Oversee the procurement process for building materials, supplies, and services required for residential construction, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery.
- Vendor Management: Establish and maintain relationships with suppliers, manufacturers, and subcontractors. Negotiate pricing, terms, and delivery schedules to ensure that materials meet company standards and are within budget.
- Cost Control: Monitor purchasing budgets, ensuring that material costs stay within budget constraints. Identify opportunities for cost savings without compromising quality.
- Order Management: Create and manage purchase orders, ensuring accurate and timely ordering of materials to avoid delays in the construction process.
- Inventory Management: Track inventory levels and coordinate with the construction team to ensure that necessary materials are available when needed, minimizing delays and avoiding overstocking.
- Vendor Performance Evaluation: Evaluate and assess supplier performance to ensure the timely delivery of high-quality materials. Address any issues that arise with vendors or deliveries.
- Market Research: Stay informed on market trends, new products, and changes in material pricing to make informed purchasing decisions. Recommend alternative products or solutions as needed.
- Compliance: Ensure all purchases comply with company policies and industry standards. Coordinate with the accounting department to ensure proper documentation and payment processing.
- Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, construction teams, and other departments to ensure materials are aligned with project timelines and specifications.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Construction Management, Supply Chain, or a related field (preferred).
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a purchasing agent, buyer, or in a similar procurement role, preferably within the residential construction industry.
- Knowledge of residential construction materials, methods, and terminology.
- Strong negotiation skills and experience in managing vendor relationships.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) and experience with purchasing software or ERP systems.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with construction-specific procurement software.
- Familiarity with local suppliers and contractors in the Katy, TX area.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to overcoming procurement challenges.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $75,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
