POSITION SUMMARY
The Logistics Specialist is responsible for oversight of the preparation, shipping, and receiving of products. A successful Logistics Specialist will have a strong understanding of logistics systems and processes, excellent organizational and communication skills, and the ability to take initiative and work independently.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Shipping & Receiving (40%)
- Review customer purchase orders for shipping and packaging requirements
- Measure and weigh shipments; prepare bill of lading for shipment
- Gather quotes and negotiate costs with carriers
- Create mailing labels and necessary shipping documents for domestic and international shipments with appropriate selected carrier
- Schedule shipments with carriers; pre-position shipments for carriers
- Load shipment onto carrier vehicles manually or using forklift, as needed
- Provide tracking information to Supply Chain, Program Management, and Accounting
- Download shipments from carriers manually or using forklift
- Verify shipment contents against packing lists
- Inspect parts for condition and/or damages
- Create a receiver for shipments in the ERP system
- Scan shipping documents into the ERP systems receiver
- Deliver manufactured parts to inspection; package, label, and place commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) parts in inventory location; properly package stock prior to storing
- After the inspection of manufactured parts, notify Supply Chain of raw parts that need additional finishing procedures or processes
Picking & Kitting (40%)
- Pick, label, and issue parts as required from ERP system and Purchase Request Forms (PRF)
- Notify Supply Chain of current and upcoming stock needs
- Kit and label projects against customer purchase orders
- Package kits in shipping containers
Supply Chain Management Support (10%)
- Maintain records of all products shipped and received
- Keep track of parts that are out on Repair Orders (ROs) with vendors; temporarily file Travelers for parts that are out on ROs
- Requisition packing supplies and containers as required; develop standardized packaging for products
- Deliver and retrieve inventory to and from storage areas
- Physically perform and document quarterly stock inventory to ensure accuracy of ERP; inventory stock locations as parts are picked
- Stock shelves and rotate inventory using FIFO Method; may receive, store, and ship flammable, explosive or caustic and hazardous materials
- Prepare damage claims for Supervisor’s review and signature; prepare RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization)
- Account for company property
Transportation of Parts (10%)
- Provide safe and efficient transportation of parts between company facilities, vendors, and customers
- Coordinate and support the transportation of parts with a company vehicle using a navigation system to map routes and deliver parts to the correct address in a timely manner
- Ensure proper administration and support for transportation of parts, including record maintenance of all routes and parts in transit
- While transporting parts, ensure the observation of all traffic laws and maintenance of safe driving practices
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to operate in a clerical setting, routinely using standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, etc.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
- Experience in Supply Chain activities, preferably in a manufacturing environment
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, and Outlook)
- Proficient knowledge of repair, manufacturing, and purchase orders systems using an ERP system
- Skilled in time management and project management
- Able to work both independently and as part of a team
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
- 5 years of logistics and/or aviation parts experience
- Working knowledge of forklift operation
- Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and parts/items requirements
- Working knowledge of an enterprise resource planning (ERP) software
- Proficient in multitasking with a high degree of accuracy in order to complete different projects at the same time
EDUCATION
- High School diploma or equivalent required
- Associate degree preferred
- Forklift Certification preferred
SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENT
Subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. A SECRET, TS, or TS/SCI clearance may be required.
