What are the responsibilities and job description for the Environmental Technician (Geologist) – Soil and Groundwater Services Focus position at Fulcrum Environmental Consulting?
Located in south central Washington State, Fulcrum Environmental Consulting Yakima office is surrounded by agricultural fields, rivers, and natural beauty with a full four seasons. Nearest bike trail - 10 minutes, great fishing - 20 minutes, nearest snow sports - 1 hour, local coffee roasters - 3, local breweries - 10, time stuck in traffic? none.
Our team includes environmental technicians, environmental scientists, industrial hygienists, hazardous materials professionals, geologists, hydrogeologists, biologists, and other professional practices. Our work occurs in the built environment, work environment, and site environment. Project tasks include:
Assisting senior staff conduct site investigation and remediation projects
- Reading and applying applicable regulations, guidance, and industry standards
- Maintaining field equipment and ordering supplies
- Completing groundwater and stormwater sampling
- Evaluating laboratory results for compliance with applicable regulations
- Collecting and organizing environmental data
- Preparing figures, maps and exhibits in ArcGIS, AutoCAD, or similar
- Drafting work plans, investigations, and remediation reports
Candidates will have a Bachelor of Science or Master's of Science in Geology, Geosciences, or related field such that the candidate can sit for their Fundamentals of Geology examination and will begin professional development to become a licensed Geologist.

- Strong verbal communication and writing skills
- Attention to detail, including field notes and project documentation
- Demonstrate ability to effectively coordinate projects with co-workers, subcontractors, general contractors, and clients
- Bring practical solutions to field challenges
- Flexible to work on a wide variety of projects, tasks and assignments, responding easily to changing priorities
Successful candidates will acquire the following certifications prior to joining or during their first year:
- Geologist-in-Training
- 40 Hour HAZWOPER training
- CPR and First Aid training
Over time we expect that you will develop expertise and recognition as a firm and regional technical expert. As you progress, the complexity and difficulty of projects are expected to increase and your responsibilities for project decisions and leadership can increase as well. We will assist your development with in-house training, online course, and conference attendance.
