Summary of Position
As a valued member of our team, you will play a key role in the development and deployment of innovative interfacing solutions designed to meet the evolving needs of our organization. Your responsibilities will include designing, developing, and implementing interface solutions, including unidirectional result interfaces, bidirectional order/result interfaces, and more complex custom workflows.
In addition, you will be responsible for designing solutions that seamlessly integrate into our existing workflows, collaborating closely with our third-party vendors and our business partners. Your active engagement with departments such as Marketing, Client Services, Sales, and others will be instrumental in delivering production solutions that help propel Fulgent towards its goals and fulfill our clients' exacting requirements.
Moreover, we expect you to demonstrate a proactive approach to diving deeper into fields such as genetics, bioinformatics, oncology, pathology, workflow management, and system design. Your willingness to immerse yourself in these areas will be essential for driving continuous innovation within our projects.
Key Job Elements
We are currently in search of a full-time, Interface/Integration Engineer to join our rapidly expanding team. Our organizational culture is deeply rooted in engineering excellence, encompassing multiple technical teams, including Web, Workflow, Distributed Systems, Bioinformatics, and IT. Candidates with extensive experience may also be considered for senior roles.
At the core of our operations, we collaborate closely with various cross-functional teams, including Lab, Genetic Scientists, Research, Client Services, Marketing, Sales, and Management. We coordinate with each department to meticulously gather requirements and craft innovative business solutions. These solutions optimize workflows and address unique needs, encompassing tasks such as gap analysis, workflow design, automation needs, solutions integration, and performance optimization.
Your responsibilities will include evaluating processes, developing solutions, creating algorithms, coordinating projects, and managing genetic data. We expect you to demonstrate a strong enthusiasm for acquiring knowledge in bioinformatics, genetics, medical science, oncology, and pathology, all in pursuit of our mission to enhance the lives of patients worldwide through diagnostics.
Qualifications
Knowledge/Experience
- Education: Minimum of a BA/BS in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (please note that candidates with only bootcamp completion will not be considered).
- Interface & Integration Expertise: Hands-on experience with HL7, FHIR, RESTful APIs, SOAP, JSON, and XML for healthcare or enterprise system integrations.
- Programming & Scripting: Proficiency in JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, or Java for interface development and data transformation.
- Integration Platforms & Middleware: Experience with Mirth Connect, Cloverleaf, Rhapsody, or similar integration engines for managing data exchange.
- Database Management: Strong understanding of SQL and NoSQL databases (Oracle, MySQL, MS SQL Server, MongoDB, or equivalent) for querying and data storage.
- Web Technologies: Familiarity with HTML, CSS, and modern JavaScript frameworks such as Vue.js, React.js, or Angular for interface configuration and monitoring tools.
- Version Control & Development Tools: Proficiency in Git, GitHub, BitBucket, or equivalent source control systems, and experience using VS Code, IntelliJ, or Eclipse IDEs.
- Operating Systems: Comfort working in Linux and Windows Server environments for deploying and managing integration solutions.
- Workflow & System Design: Ability to design, implement, and troubleshoot integration workflows using message queues, ETL pipelines, and cloud-based services.
- Communication & Documentation: Strong ability to collaborate with stakeholders, write technical documentation, and create detailed workflow diagrams.
- Problem-Solving & Troubleshooting: Exceptional analytical skills for diagnosing integration issues and optimizing system performance.
- Continuous Learning: Interest in expanding knowledge of healthcare IT, system interoperability, and emerging integration technologies.
Preferred Skills
- Containerization & Orchestration: Proficiency with Docker and Kubernetes for deploying and managing integration services.
- Advanced Scripting & Automation: Experience with Python, Bash, and Regular Expressions for log analysis, automation, and workflow optimizations.
- Enterprise Architecture & Scalability: Strong understanding of microservices, middleware frameworks, and high-availability system architectures.
- Data Workflow & Processing: Expertise in ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes, data pipelines, and streaming technologies for real-time and batch data exchange.
- Development Lifecycle & DevOps: Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing (unit, integration, regression), and Git-based workflows.
- Security & Compliance: Knowledge of web security best practices, authentication (OAuth, SAML), encryption, and compliance standards (HIPAA, SOC 2, GDPR).
- Networking & System Communication: Understanding of TCP/IP, VPNs, firewalls, load balancers, and message queuing systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ, ActiveMQ).
- Healthcare Interoperability & Standards: In-depth familiarity with HL7, FHIR, DICOM, X12, CCD, and CDA to enable seamless system communication.
- Cloud Computing & API Management: Experience working with AWS, Azure, or GCP, implementing API gateways, RESTful APIs, and SOAP-based services.
- Healthcare & Life Sciences Expertise: Understanding of bioinformatics, genetics, oncology, and pathology to support healthcare system integrations.
- Oncology & Pathology Data Integration: Experience working with cancer registries, molecular diagnostics, genetic sequencing data, and pathology workflows to facilitate interoperability between oncology and pathology systems.
