Job Summary: The Dental Billing Specialist performs all assigned responsibilities related to the billing process. Primary responsibilities include positively and professionally communicating with insurance companies, patients, and other team members in the practice to ensure that claims are submitted, processed, and insurance payments are accurately posted in a timely manner.
Duties/Responsibilities - the Billing Specialist is responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties:
- Process payments from patients and insurance companies, including paper checks, credit cards and ERA payments
- Understand and work effectively with the ERA process from each insurance company
- Review weekly insurance aging and AR reports and follow-up, correct and/or appeal/resubmit unpaid claims
- Conduct follow-up phone calls with insurance carriers and/or patients to collect payment.
- Maintain compliant billing practices and ensure that federal, state & local laws/guidelines are followed accordingly.
- Review explanation of benefits and patient history for accurate reimbursement and discounts by contracted managed care companies
- Research, process, and correct billing issues including discrepancies and rejected claims
- Assist with processing insurance/patient refunds, insurance disputes and patient escalations
- Make accurate account adjustments
- Maintain confidentiality, high-integrity, and honesty in all affairs
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance
- Adhere to the aforementioned mission statement
- Other duties as assigned
Preferred Qualifications and Abilities:
- High school diploma or GED
- Previous knowledge of dental billing and insurance guidelines preferred but not required
- Excellent verbal, written, and organizational skills
- Excellent attention to detail and follow processes
- Ability to prioritize and accurately perform multiple tasks simultaneously
- Ability to work under stressful conditions while maintaining professional demeanor
- Ability to work both as a team member and independently, with minimal supervision, while meeting all deadlines
- Ability to become familiar with reviewing patient charts, x-rays, and clinical notes
- Maintains strict adherence to confidentiality at all times
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
- Bilingual preferred
