Job Title: Payroll Clerk
Pay Rate: $20- $23/hr.
Shift: 1st
Benefits: Medical, Dental, AD&D
Position Summary:
The Payroll Clerk is responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely processing of employee payroll, including verifying time records, addressing discrepancies, maintaining payroll records, and handling various payroll-related inquiries.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Review time records for weekly and bi-weekly payroll processing and contact and obtain supervisor approval for revisions of discrepancies such as missed time, missed punches, etc.
• Open and close payroll periods in accordance with company schedules.
• Print and distribute daily labor logs to supervisors for review and approval.
• Process approved labor logs, ensuring accurate labor transfers.
• Verify employee time records, including timesheets, vacation, and sick leave, ensuring compliance with company policies and labor laws.
• Maintain and update employee payroll records, including personal information, tax withholding details, and benefit deductions.
• Process payroll with careful attention to new hires, terminations, promotions, and changes in pay rates.
• Collaborate with HR and Accounting departments to resolve payroll discrepancies or issues.
• Process garnishment requests promptly and notify affected employees.
• Address employee inquiries regarding payroll, taxes, and deductions in a timely manner.
• Participate in updates and improvements to the payroll system, as necessary.
• Verify attendance, hours worked, and pay adjustments, PSL and PTO balances.
• Perform other payroll-related duties and administrative tasks as required.
• Distribute paychecks to employees.
• Other duties as assigned.

•Organizational Skills: Payroll clerk should be able to prioritize tasks, manage multiple payroll cycles, and stay organized while handling multiple duties, such as processing payroll, addressing inquiries, and maintaining records.
•Communication Skills: Effective communication is key, both for interacting with employees regarding payroll inquiries and collaborating with HR and Accounting teams to resolve payroll discrepancies.
•Confidentiality and Discretion: Given the sensitive nature of payroll information, the candidate must demonstrate the ability to handle confidential data with integrity and respect for privacy.
• Problem-Solving Skills: The ability to identify and address payroll discrepancies, investigate issues, and find solutions to challenges such as missed time or incorrect pay rates.
• Adaptability and Flexibility: The ability to adapt to changing systems, updates to payroll software, and evolving company needs, while remaining flexible in a fast-paced environment.
• Time Management: The candidate must manage multiple payroll deadlines, including ensuring timely opening and closing of payroll periods, and processing payroll with a high level of accuracy.
Qualifications:
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
• Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in completing tasks.
• Must be meticulous, with a commitment to error-free work in payroll processing.
• Effective communication skills in both English and Spanish.
• Understanding of payroll, federal and state labor laws.
• handle sensitive information confidentially.
Education and/or Experience:
• High school diploma or equivalent. Some college preferred.
• 2-3 years of payroll experience in agriculture or manufacturing in an
• HRIS and time and attendance system (ADP).
Reasoning Abilities: Must be able to work independently to carry out details of your job function. Must be able to assess and adapt with unexpected situations that may arise while carrying out the duties of your job.
Physical Demands:
This is a largely sedentary role. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk, reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and color vision. Must be able to lift file boxes, move and set up tables and chairs in the Training room, bend, stand and walk as necessary. Regularly lift and carry 25 pounds or less. Some evening and weekend work required during harvest season.
