What are the responsibilities and job description for the Preschool Teacher Assistant position at Fulmont Early Childhood Services?
SUMMARY
Responsible for assisting the Head Start Teacher in providing the children with appropriate learning experiences, while maintaining a clean, safe and social learning environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Follow all Fulmont, Head Start, and NYS Day Care Regulations, Policies and Procedures.
Follow guidance and direction from the classroom Teacher.
Assist the Teacher with lesson planning and carrying out daily routine/activities.
Submit attendance and volunteer sheets and classroom news as required to designated staff.
Promote daily life skills in each child by providing opportunities involving room cleanliness and personal hygiene, such as table setting/cleanup, sweeping floor, picking up after play time, brushing teeth, proper toilet habits/cleanliness, etc.
Ensure tables are set in a manner that promotes family style meal periods, as required by the performance standards.
Promote socialization, fine motor skills, self-help skills, and appropriate table manners during family style meal periods.
Interact with children through continuous educational opportunities involving all developmental areas: language, social/emotional, fine and gross motor, and cognitive.
Create and promote a continuous, positive environment for children, families and staff.
Assume classroom responsibilities in the absence of the Teacher, and ensure events and information are communicated upon return of the Teacher.
Guide and direct Bus Monitor/Center Aides, Substitutes and Volunteers in the classroom.
Attend mandatory training and pursue education as it pertains to the position.
Assist children during arrival and dismissal periods.
Enter data into ChildPlus Program regarding communication with families, observations, disclosures, incidents, etc.
Enter observations into GOLD, as deemed necessary by Teacher or Management.
Meet standards and expectations of CLASS.
Provide continuous supervision, monitoring and interaction with the children during indoor/outdoor activities, field trips, etc.
Communicate and discuss concerns and/or issues directly related to the children, families or classroom operations to the Teacher.
Provide input as requested by management regarding staff performance evaluations.
Adhere to all Agency safety policies as well as any State, Federal or other applicable safety regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
A Two-year Degree in Early Childhood Education or Valid Child Development Accreditation (CDA) preferred. High school diploma required. Previous work experience in a preschool setting preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid NYS Driver License required. First Aid/CPR Certification a plus.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Reliable transportation required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents and written communications. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively speak in both one-on-one and group situations involving children, parents, staff and community members.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to utilize basic math skills, such as adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to effectively and efficiently problem solve.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The employee must possess the physical ability to perform the essential functions of this job.
