Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED required; supplemented by vocational or technical training in airfield movement; two years of experience in landscape maintenance, vehicle maintenance, or equipment operation to include one year of lead or supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Specific License or Certification Required: Must obtain a valid Georgia Commercial Driver’s license (CDL) including appropriate endorsement(s) within 6 months of employment; Airfield Certification (to be obtained within three (3) months of employment).
Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all county or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.
Purpose of Classification:
The purpose of this classification is to perform duties related to airport/airfield maintenance at the Fulton County Airport, including maintaining the airport/airfield property and grounds and providing preventative maintenance services within the airport. Airfield Maintenance Worker is distinguished from an Airfield Maintenance Supervisor in that the former does not supervise assigned staff but performs routine airfield maintenance duties, whereas the latter supervises assigned staff, and oversees daily maintenance operations activities.
Essential Functions:
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Utilizes hand and power tools to maintain airfield runways, taxiway entrances, light lanes, and parking lots.
Repairs and maintains equipment. Performs preventative maintenance within the airport, including replacing filters, cleaning fans, and checking and repairing refrigerator leaks.
Performs runway, taxiway, and ramp maintenance, including maintaining and repairing Runway End Identifier Lights (REIL). Communicates with air traffic control technicians via two-way radio while working around moving aircraft.
Maintains and troubleshoots the medium and high intensities of the airfield navigational light system.
Additional Functions:
Performs other related duties as required.
Occasional after-hours work required for Public Works emergencies.Performance Aptitudes:

Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference and descriptive data and information.
Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. May include counting, recording of counts, and basic measuring.
Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form. Involves semi-routine standardized work with some latitude for independent judgment concerning choices of action.
Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving evaluation of information against measurable or verifiable criteria.
