PERMANENT ANNUAL SALARY: $41,545.00

PART-TIME HOURLY RATE: $19.97

Minimum Qualifications

Associate’s Degree in a related field required, (Bachelor’s Degree preferred); supplemented by two (2) years of customer service or library related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Specific License or Certification Required: May be required to possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license if required by position assignment.

Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities : Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all county or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.

Examination

The examination will consist of an evaluation of education and experience, accomplished by analysis of the application. Application must document that the applicant possesses the minimum knowledge, skills, education and experience as listed. If selected, an official, accredited college transcript is required, at time of employment, for all degrees/course work used to qualify for this position.

Essential Functions

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Provides customer service to patrons and the public: greets visitors and directs to areas of library; provides assistance and information related to library services, fees, procedures, voter registration, city information/directions, or other issues; assists patrons with self-check and library services; registers new patrons: enters/updates patron information in computer; and prepares new and replacement library cards; researches book titles, book availability, patron records, or related information; reserves materials for patrons; notifies patrons about overdue books, arrival of reserved books, or other issues; and assists patrons with use of copy machine and maintains adequate supply of copy paper in paper trays.

Staffs circulation desk: checks library materials in/out; assesses and clears fines; operates the library’s automated circulation system to charge, discharge, and renew books; processes or locates holds upon request; retrieves books from book drop; inspects materials for damage and withdraws materials in need of repair from circulation; inspects materials prior to shelving; routes materials to other locations as appropriate; and sorts/arranges materials on book carts for shelving.

May lead staff as needed; including establishing workloads, prioritizing work assignments, interpreting policies and procedures, and resolving staff issues; and establishes service desk schedules within assigned area.

Shelves library materials, conducts routine reading of shelves, and maintains shelf order of materials.

Performs library accounting functions and manages budget accounts within assigned area: monitors expenditures for budget compliance; collects and records money in payment of fines, fees, book sales, or other library services; writes receipts; removes fine data from computer; and counts revenues/balances with receipts.

Coordinates the holds process for an assigned unit, department, and/or branch.

Operates a computer to enter, retrieve, review or modify data; utilizes word processing, database, or other software programs.

Performs computer data entry to create records within assigned area: searches computer databases and matches document or item information to computer information within assigned area; and contributes to database management through performing deletions and related activities.

Interprets library rules, policies, and procedures for assigned staff and library patrons.

May offer assistance in the development of bibliographies, and other guides for library patrons: maintains library files and within assigned area.

Assisting in planning, developing, and implementing programs and workshops within an assigned area: contributes to the development of and presents special programs, children’s programs, tours, storytelling, library activities, and outreach programs for various populations; plans and prepares and/or assists in creating displays, exhibits, or bulletin boards.

Provides assistance to library patrons in use of computer resources, including Internet access, on-line card catalog system operations, and on-line searches; teaches users basic functions and operating techniques; and helps users find information online.

Prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, schedules, routes, statistical reports, order lists, library cards, receipts, door count forms, supply requisitions, time cards, or other documents.

Receives various forms, reports, correspondence, library cards, library card applications, patron identification, hold requests, room reservation requests, invoices, packing slips, cash/checks, book donations, maps, manuals, reference materials, or other documentation; reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate.

Answers the telephone; provides information and assistance; takes/relays messages or directs calls to appropriate personnel, libraries, or departments; returns calls as necessary; renews books by telephone.

Communicates with supervisor, employees, volunteers, library patrons, community organizations, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.

Serves on committees and task forces; assists in drafting policies and procedures, and making recommendations to supervisor.

Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving evaluation of information against measurable or verifiable criteria.
