Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in business, actuarial science or a related field required; supplemented by two (2) years of experience in risk management, property or casualty insurance; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license.
Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all county or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.
Examination:
The examination will consist of an evaluation of education and experience, accomplished by analysis of the application. Application must document that the applicant possesses the minimum knowledge, skills, education and experience as listed to be rated as qualified. The purpose of this classification is to perform duties related to the processing of property and/or liability claims filed against the county for damages/losses incurred. Responsibilities include verifying property and/or liability claims for investigation, assigning adjusters to investigate loss claims, providing assistance to supervisor, and providing lead direction to assigned staff as required. This classification is distinguished from Risk Management Supervisor in that this class processes property and/or liability claims filed for damages/losses incurred, whereas the latter supervises assigned risk management staff and oversees specific claims programs.
Essential Functions:
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Investigates property and/or liability claims for bodily injury or property damage: performs field visits to claim locations; takes/secures photographs of scene; secures statements of involved/observing parties by telephone or in person; and obtains recorded and/or written statements.
Reviews claims submitted internally and externally: establishes action plan to complete investigation; coordinates property damage/liability claim assignments to outside appraisers/investigators as required; confirms location of vehicle/property for inspection; and prepares request documentation.
Interprets policy and procedures for applicable losses; reviews protocols; and interprets and communicates Fulton County risk management claims handling policies and procedures to internal and external partners.
Assists County departments in documenting property structural and content losses to insurance carriers.
Reviews reports and invoices submitted by outside adjusters/appraisers for appropriateness and makes recommendations to supervisor for claims resolution.
Negotiates with claimants and opposing counsel: and mediates property loss disputes between insurance adjusters and County departments.
Maintains a property register/schedule on County-owned or leased buildings and contents.
Receives and reviews various documentation, including policy documents, police reports, medical records, and repair invoices; reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate.
Prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, and other documentation, including property damage reports and bodily injury reports; compiles data for further processing or for use in preparation of department reports; and maintains computerized and/or hardcopy records.
Communicates with County Departments, claimants, insurance carriers, attorneys/law firms, supervisor, and other individuals as needed to coordinate claims activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
