SENIOR WATER METER SPECIALIST

Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED; supplemented by three years of experience in meter reading and troubleshooting of meter reading issues relevant to residential and commercial meters, including one year of lead or supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. 

Specific License or Certification Required: None.

Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all county or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.

The examination will consist of an evaluation of education and experience, accomplished by analysis of the application. The purpose of this position is to perform meter troubleshooting tasks and administrative duties to maintain accurate billing information for the County's water distribution system.

Essential Functions: 
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Supervises and oversees Meter Reader Staff: oversees the tasks and responsibilities of Water Meter Specialists, including day-to-day scheduling and planning of work activities, personnel oversight, and working towards solutions involving employee problems and issues.
 
Troubleshoot meter reading problems and billing errors on residential and commercial meters. Conducts research, reviews account histories, makes corrections, creates or reviews status of work orders, and resolves issues regarding meter reading problems and billing (residential & commercial). Also, performs flow testing activities on residential meters when requested.
 
Processes a variety of documentation associated with metering operations. Receives and reviews various documentation including transfer and re-read lists, disconnect/reconnect lists, and meter service orders. Reviews, completes, processes, forwards, and retains as appropriate. Creates CMMS work orders to track labor, materials, and equipment used during residential and commercial meter repairs/replacement. Performs follow-up data entry into the CIS finance billing system as needed.
 
Performs customer service functions related to finance billing. Provides problem resolution to routine questions, complaints, or requests for service.
 
Provides guidance and training to co-workers on meter & register replacement. Trains and instructs new staff on operational procedures and proper use of equipment.
 
Performs meter transfer reads/re-reads and disconnects/reconnects service. Receives and reviews list of accounts, creates routes, locates meters, checks for safety hazards and verifies meter numbers as it relates to reads/re-reads and disconnects/re-connects.
 
Conducts meter accuracy verification on residential meters. Performs routine and case-by-case meter accuracy verification. Residential meters are removed, and bench tested as needed.
