Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science or a related field; supplemented by three years of experience in Infrastructure Management or System Management experience including deploying and managing virtualized systems, Active Directory, SCCM, MS Exchange; and or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license. Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP), Microsoft Certified Server Administrator (MCSA) and/or VMWare Experience or certification tract preferred.
Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Must have knowledge of a scripting languages (e.g. PowerShell), Computer and Electronics, Engineering and Technology, virtualization, operating systems and server and blade hardware, Active Directory and Microsoft Exchange email systems, storage concepts, storage virtualization, storage management and object storage, systems automation scripting and process, and basic knowledge of IP networking and email protocols. Must have strong skills in communication and collaboration skills, strong diagnostic troubleshooting skills, active listening, critical thinking, complex problem solving, operations analysis, and system evaluation. Must have the ability to manage time, to write well and clearly on technical subject for non-technical audiences, and to make sound judgement and decision making decisions.
Purpose of Classification:
This is a systems administration position whose function is to manage, operate and administer computing infrastructure including servers, operating systems, storage, and infrastructure services. This position will perform routine and moderately complex tasks required in the implementation and maintenance of computer systems infrastructure.
Essential Functions:
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Monitors compute infrastructure health, capacity reports and incident tickets and performs corrective actions. Performs moderately complex system implementations, maintenance, patching and updates. Troubleshoots and resolves server, storage and software issues, and repairs defective components or submits change requests.
Provides technical support for application development and IT engineering staff. Documents and updates compute infrastructure processes, procedures and system documentation. Participates and contributes to the evaluation and design of new or refreshed server, storage and system software.
Monitors and maintains the County systems infrastructure, ensuring that the appropriate performance meets the needs of the departments. Monitors and performs routine maintenance for the County's server infrastructure, including Linux and Microsoft OS based servers.
Monitors and performs routine maintenance for the County's VMware server virtualization infrastructure. Monitors and performs routine maintenance for the storage infrastructure including directly attached, SAN attached and Network shared storage. Monitors and performs routine maintenance for the County's infrastructure services such as Active Directory, DNS, Backup, Email and monitoring applications. Works directly with County application, server, and infrastructure related vendors to review, monitor, repair and implement infrastructure components and services.
Applies patches and updates to servers, storage, Active Directory, backup and monitoring hardware and software. Performs routine server builds. Performs routine storage allocation updates and access list updates.
Monitors help desk incidents to diagnose and resolve incidents. Open support tickets with vendors and work with vendor support staff to resolve incidents. Update configuration management database when incidents require configuration changes to resolve. Brings systematic issues to the attention of senior staff and management for proactive configuration or design changes. Submits change requests for routine planned system updates and patches. Provides occasional after-hours support to address application or infrastructure issues with support teams.
Responds to service request for routine server and storage change requests submitted by application development and IT engineering staff . Works with application development and IT engineering staff to diagnose and repair application system issues and outages.
Develops and updates standard operating procedures. Develops and updates compute infrastructure systems diagrams, design, and component relationships.
Attends Vendor presentation. Participates in proof of concept or pilot trial implementations. Researches vendor solutions and industry forums and reviews.
Communicates with County officials, supervisor, other employees, clients, third party service contractors, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
