The Fulton Fish Market Cooperative is seeking a full-time position of Special Projects Manager, reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer.

The Fulton Fish Market Cooperative is a 200 year old NYC institution and the largest fish market in the United States. The fish market is part of NYC's primary food distribution circuit in Hunts Point, Bronx. The Cooperative is under new leadership and undergoing substantial transitions. This is a unique opportunity to learn from and work hand-in-hand with a CEO and team reviving a historic institution. This position has high growth potential for the right candidate.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the CEO, the Special Projects Manager will:

  • Provide project implementation and management in areas of business and market operations to include, but not limited to, existing and emerging revenue generating programs, emerging community development programs, property management, construction management, business development, branding and marketing, public and government affairs, research and analysis, IT, and safety & security
  • Coordinate and manage consultants and vendors, ensuring adherence to project scope, budget, and schedules approved by CEO
  • Conduct research and analysis to support decision making by FFMC leadership
  • Support the CEO in new program development for Fulton Fish for the Arts, Fulton Fish for the Workforce, and by greening facility waste streams. Be the "face" of these emerging programs in collaboration with the CEO
  • Support the Admin Office team (Director of Finance & Business Administration & Executive Assistant) in office modernization - updating and documenting processes/procedures for all teams and the modernization of the physical office space (ex. mission paperless)
  • Identify grant funding opportunities and prepare grant applications
  • Develop and administer tools and tracking sheets to organize Cooperative staff, teams, and internal workflows
  • Support in coordinating conferences, travel, events (internal and external), Shareholder meetings, and meetings with the Board of Directors
  • Organize internal and external meetings, ex. prepare agenda, meeting materials, and minutes/draft communications to meeting participants/ensure appropriate follow-up on action items
  • Support CEO in preparation for high level meetings and speaking events, including development of background documents, presentations and/or talking points
  • Cross-train in all division leadership functions and provide coverage to leadership across the Cooperative as needed
  • Serve as a liaison and POC for all employees, Shareholders, and external stakeholders for the CEO and FFMC, in coordination with the Cooperative's Executive Assistant
  • Manage and ensure timely FFMC response to requests from all parties internal and external
  • Organize and develop key content for public messaging and social media campaigns
  • Support CEO and counsel in drafting and processing contract and lease documents
  • Other tasks at the request of FFMC CEO and Board of Directors

Other minimum and preferred qualifications

  • Bachelor's required, Master's and/or PMP certification preferred. A wide-variety of educational/professional backgrounds will be considered for this role
  • 5 years' experience in project management, special projects, implementation, project coordination, business development, and/or in a Chief of Staff-type role. 3 years' experience will be considered if the candidate has a Master's
  • Proficiency with Excel, Microsoft Project, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, and MS Teams required
  • Professional but can also thrive in a gritty fast paced ( smelly!) environment
  • Willing to roll up sleeves to personally get a job done
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and can-do attitude
  • Proactive problem solver that can operate equally efficiently and productively autonomously with little guidance or in group settings as part of a close-nit and collaborative team
  • Must be eager to learn, participate, collaborate, provide feedback openly and respectfully, and be easily adaptable to change
  • High level of emotional intelligence, ability to stay calm under pressure, and "street smarts" required
  • Experience in the seafood industry a plus
  • Passion for food security, sustainability, workforce development, and/or waterfront activation a plus
  • Not a 9AM-5PM position. Most commonly a 7AM-3PM role, requiring flexible availability to account for occasional early morning and night/weekend meetings and events, and rare but required travel. Hybrid position: approximately 3 days at the market 7AM-3PM (at least one 5AM morning every 1-2 weeks), 1-2 days remote (less rigid schedule these days - more about deliverables being met than specific time of day worked), up to 1 day available to meet CEO in Manhattan or at a Greenpoint coworking space

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $85,000.00 per year
