English Learner Teacher Job Description
This position is for an English Learner teacher who will design and implement language instruction and intervention for students who are identified as English Learners. The English Learner teacher will provide support to English Learner students in their classrooms and in the content areas. The English Learner teacher will be expected to develop individualized educational plans for each English Learner student and develop and deliver group and individual student instruction within established curriculum guidelines within all content areas. The English Learner teacher will work collaboratively with classroom teachers. This position may require travel among schools. English Learner teachers are district teachers who are assigned to buildings to fit the needs of English Learner students; therefore, building placement may change from year to year. This job reports to the Director of Special Services & Federal Programs.

Minimum Qualifications:
Skills: Superior cross-cultural communication and interpersonal skills, enthusiasm, flexibility, self-directed, highly motivated, able to work independently, proficient written and verbal communication skills in English.
Knowledge: Knowledge of the Missouri (WIDA) English Language Development (ELD) standards, current ELD teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based on academic English proficiency levels. Ability to communicate effectively with multi-lingual, multi-cultural students and their parents/guardians. Proficiency in various EL program delivery models including pull-out ESOL, push-in, co-teaching, etc.
Ability: Establishing and maintaining constructive relationships; adapting to changing work priorities; maintaining confidentiality; exhibiting tact and patience; and working flexible hours.
Responsibility:
The English Learner teacher works under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods; directing other persons within a small work unit; operating within a defined budget. Utilization of resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions. There is some opportunity to significantly impact the organization's services.
Working Environment:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 10% sitting, 40% walking, and 50% standing. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.

Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this position.

Essential Functions:
- Enthusiastically collaborates with district and school registrars to provide a welcoming experience for multilingual students and their families enrolling in the district.
- Identifies potential English Learners' initial English language proficiency level for each language domain via the state approved WIDA Screener.
- Collects information in a timely manner about students' families, languages, cultures, and educational backgrounds.
- Administers the annual ACCESS for English Learners state assessment of growth in English language proficiency, updating certifications in test administration annually.
- Adapts curriculum to provide individual, small group, and/or remedial instruction to meet the needs of individual students capitalizing on the resources and experiences English Learners bring to school to build and enrich their academic language.
- Develops daily language learning targets by analyzing language demands and identifying the language needed for functional use involved in grade-level teaching and learning.
- Provides opportunities for English Learners of every proficiency level to engage in higher-order thinking.
- Works collaboratively with classroom teachers of English Learners to create language-rich classroom environments and effectively communicate progress in English Language Development (ELD) with students and parents.
- Formatively assesses students' linguistic, academic and social growth and maintains and updates English language development (ELD) portfolios.
- Focusses on the developmental nature of language learning when applying up-to-date knowledge of individual English Learners' language proficiency to provide differentiated instructional supports to help scaffold content-based language learning.
- Communicates rules and standards of behavior clearly via non-linguistic representations to ensure full comprehension, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
