Fun Dog Studios is a new employee-owned indie studio composed of ex-AAA game developers with a united mission to game development and publishing: making games we want to play for customers with transparency and respectful monetization practices. This mission has resonated with customers as our first title, The Forever Winter, has been a top-seller on Steam in its early days, engaging hundreds of thousands of “scav” players around the world.
We are seeking a Director of Technology to join our team. The ideal candidate is an experienced Engineer leader for AAA/AA games. This is a full-time remote position. This position will also be eligible to receive equity in our fast-growing studio.
Responsibilities
- Oversees the entirety of all engineering efforts and manages a team of engineers to ensure the successful implementation of gameplay and system features from prototype to final product.
- Create, review, and maintain an engineering vision with the team and key stakeholders
- Creates, supervises and maintains both player facing and back-end systems technical architecture for game development.
- Assesses technical risks and helps create mitigation strategies to ensure development goals can be achieved within time constraints and budgets.
- Works closely with design, art, audio and production teams to facilitate pipeline and architecture setups that allow for rapid iteration game development.
- Own the technical direction and implementation of the game. Improve performance, maintain reliability, and ensure scalability of the game throughout its lifecycle
- Lead, grow, and coach team members to build talent over the long term
- Identify, recruit, interview, and hire software engineers to help the team scale effectively
- Demonstrate a high bar of craft excellence for the team
- Update and maintain build pipeline
- Partner with design and creative directors to help establish deliverables and timelines for the engineering team to ensure that the team is delivering in a consistent, predictable, and sustainable manner
Requirements
- 10 years experience shipping titles
- Comfortable working directly with designers in an iterative environment
- Strong Modern C development skills
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
Preferences
- Previous work on shipped Shooter titles
- Experience with Jenkins, AWS, and Perforce
- Extensive Unreal Engine 4/5 experience
