What are the responsibilities and job description for the Community Engagement and Training Specialist position at Fund for Public Health in NYC?
The Fund for Public Health in New York City (FPHNYC) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that is dedicated to the advancement of the health and well-being of all New Yorkers. To this end, in partnership with the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH), FPHNYC incubates innovative public health initiatives implemented by DOHMH to advance community health throughout the city. It facilitates partnerships, often new and unconventional, between government and the private sector to develop, test, and launch new initiatives. These collaborations speed the execution of demonstration projects, effect expansion of successful pilot programs, and support rapid implementation to meet the public health needs of individuals, families, and communities across New York City.
Program Overview
The New York City Bureau of Tuberculosis Control (BTBC) which sits within the DOHMH Division of Disease Control is a leading institution in diagnosing, treating, and managing patients with tuberculosis (TB). We have a multi-disciplinary team who perform essential public health activities, operate four clinics, and offer services in the community. The Bureau is comprised of a diverse staff who is passionate about responding and controlling public health problems in New York City.
The Bureau of Tuberculosis Control received a 5-year CDC grant award (1/1/2020-12/31/2024) to support tuberculosis (TB) Control efforts in New York City. Recipients of the award must perform activities that address TB indicators aligned with National TB Objectives and advance the goal of national TB elimination. With the current COVID19 pandemic, current efforts must expand to focus on examining TB/COVID comorbidity, modify essential services as a result of COVID such as use of telemedicine, ensure patients in the DOHMH clinics have access to COVID19 services including vaccination, and safely reopening and re-instituting TB essential services that were affected by COVID19.
Position Overview
The Training Specialist for the Bureau of Tuberculosis will conduct activities critical to meeting the mission and goals of the Bureau. The incumbent will join the training & outreach team in providing education and outreach throughout our boroughs. They will be involved in the design and implementing training for internal & external stakeholders. They will be responsible for LTBI less than 5 project, working alongside training coordinator to schedule, coordinate and deliver staff training, perform evaluation & assessment, and offer recommendations to improve efficiencies. The selected candidate will be assigned to the central office in Queens, NY.

Responsibilities
- Report to the Director of Training & Outreach to support training initiatives.
- Co- facilitate New Staff Orientation & New Staff training alongside training coordinator.
- Support outreach efforts & participate in NYC TB Coalition workgroup
- Conduct ongoing survey & assessment pre and post all trainings and organize reports.
- Support training coordinator with monitoring attendance of all internal & external trainings.
- Collaborate with members of TAO & other units in creating Bureau wide & WTBD event.
- Co-design of educational materials i.e. TB care cascade deliverables in collaboration w/ TB Coalition
- Provide ongoing outreach to schedule training with team leads.
- Work collaboratively with others in LTBI children less than 5 data gathering project.
- Prepares presentations alongside Training Coordinator.
- Review & revise training curriculum alongside Training Coordinator.
- Bachelor’s degree in public health studies
- Excellent communication (verbal & written) and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational skills, with ability to multi-task and track activities
- Ability to prioritize and work in fast-paced environment with hard deadlines.
- Salary range is $50K to $60K
