Job Summary:
Manages the Duke Library building and supervises circulation functions of Furman's three libraries during weekend hours, including patron assistance, supervision of student assistants, collection maintenance, equipment maintenance, interlibrary loan, PASCAL Delivers, and opening and closing of the libraries.
The Access Services Weekend Circulation Supervisor is a part-time, academic-year position starting at $18.00 per hour with regularly scheduled hours of Saturday 10:00am - 5:00pm and Sunday 10:00am - 5:00pm with adjusted schedule during special events, academic breaks and exam periods.
Job Description:
Responsibilities:
Opens and manages Duke Library building on weekends; ensures that Maxwell Music Library and Sanders Science Library are opened and fully operational Supervises circulation procedures, including:

Verifying patron accounts, check-in/check-out of library materials, renewing, placing/cancelling holds on materials

Creating patron accounts including issuing library borrower cards

Recalling items
-
Determining when to override expiration date, library-use-only items, due date, etc.

Collecting fines

Collecting and recording library use statistics
- Stacks maintenance, including shelving items, shelf reading, and shifting
Supervises student assistants which may include training, assignment and monitoring of specific tasks, and managing Science and Music libraries
Performs library opening procedures, including making sure all entry doors are unlocked and turning on equipment and lights as necessary
Performs library closing procedures, including making sure the building is empty, ensuring entry doors are locked, turning off equipment and lights as necessary
Maintains library equipment including multifunction printers and microform reader/printers Assists patrons of the library by:

Helping locate library materials

Giving directions to other library locations on campus (Music, Science, etc.)
- Assisting with use of library databases or referring patrons to research assistance as appropriate
Processes Interlibrary Loan borrowing requests as needed
Maintains the general security of public areas.
Reports maintenance problems to Facilities Services and security problems to University Police as needed
Meets regularly with the Access Services Coordinator
Other duties as assigned.
Follows safety procedures
Completes performance review process with supervisor to understand job performance expectations and how they fit into the department and university goals
Relationships:
Periodic contact with members of own work unit, immediate supervisor, other departments, students, student assistants, staff, the general public, and faculty to exchange factual information and explanation of rules, regulations, practices or functions
Responsibility for Final Decisions:
Tasks involve multiple procedures with interrelated processes or steps. Work involves choosing the appropriate option or procedure to follow and applying established rules and procedures.
Errors are readily detected in the normal course of work by standard check or crosscheck.

Coordinator for Access Services
Work is performed independently on routine work, non-routine issues or questions are referred to the supervisor.
Educational/Skill Requirements:
High School graduate with 1 - 2 years experience in related field
Bachelors Degree preferred
Knowledge of library operations
Ability to direct student assistants
Ability to effectively communicate policies, procedures, requests and information to patrons, students, faculty, colleagues, etc.
Ability to follow written and oral instruction
Ability to read and understand alphabetic and numeric characters rapidly and accurately
Ability to use a variety of computer software used in the library system
Ability to accurately transfer, translate, and interpret data from one format to another
Work Conditions:
Work is performed in an office environment.
Work requires lifting and movement of books and other library materials.
Work involves exposure to dust and mold.
