What are the responsibilities and job description for the Personal Care Assistant position at Furton-Baker Household?
Seeking female Home Care Attendant: Needing someone to provide care for a 19 yo girl who has paralysis from the neck down due to Guillain Barre-Syndrome. She was in an car accident in Nov 2019 and is recovering from a traumatic brain injury. She is cognitively intact, and a typical chatty, spunky teenage girl who loves her fancy nails, hair, makeup and shopping.
Applicants must be able to pass a background check, have CPR certification, and have a valid DL. Must be at least 18 years old, with a heavy preference on a non-smoker. Would prefer someone with previous caregiving experience, though open to training the right person.
This position is in the far northern Fort Worth near 35/170 interchange.
Current needs are as follows:
2 weekends per month (Sat & Sun), or alternatively can be straight Sat only on a weekly basis with a targeted 3-4 shifts per month. You can expect to work anywhere from 8 to 12 hours each scheduled weekend shift.
Typical weekend schedule is 11am until 8pm, though can differ based on needs and may require some earlier or later shifts.
The schedule is posted well in advance, typically about a month ahead. I am very flexible with scheduling and can typically accommodate all requests.
Care includes, but is not limited to:
All activities of daily living such as-preparing meals and feeding her, giving medications (premade packets), getting her up and ready for the day (dressing/undressing), bathing and hair washing (brush, dry and style), changing her diapers, brushing and flossing teeth, shaving as needed. Transfers in and out of bed to and from her power wheelchair (you will be trained on this, so no worries if you have never transferred someone before).
Light housekeeping such as keeping her bedroom tidy and organized (sweeping/mopping), emptying trash, washing, folding and putting away laundry, changing bed linens routinely, loading and unloading the dishwasher, wiping down countertops and cleaning any messes made by her or while caring for her. We do have 2 dogs and you would also need to let them in and out throughout the day at times. (Milo is the cutest French bulldog and Iggy is a super sweet black lab).
We do have a wheelchair van, and it is expected that once trained you will transport her to events/ functions, appointments, and even just for fun outings to Starbucks or the hair salon, etc.
There is plenty of downtime in this position- she is not a toddler and does not need 24/7 "eyes on you" supervision but rather within ear shot supervision. You will have time to do homework, watch movies or other tasks that you can do from the home within earshot as she will call for you when she needs you. Previous caregivers have found it particularly easy to do online school while working with us.
