Job Description

The main role of an Insurance Verification Specialist is to review all clients' insurance information and correctly verify their existing insurance benefits. The insurance details will then be entered into the EHR system and explained to the client, provider and billing/scheduling team.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To answer all calls and emails and ensure client's have their most up to date insurance information on file
  • To obtain and accurately record appropriate demographic, insurance, financial and/or referral information.
  • Verify in network status and ensure accurate costs per session
  • Updating clients on any changes from EOBs
  • To inform provider, client and scheduling/billing team of client's insurance benefits
  • Update and enter client's insurance information into EHR system
  • To redirect all calls to appropriate resources and referrals
  • To maintain client satisfaction by a warm greeting and offer of refreshments
  • To revise therapists' schedules for cancellations and advising therapist of changes in a timely manner
  • To perform clerical duties such as photocopying, preparing labels, faxing, filing, sorting, preparing batch cover sheets, etc.
  • To conform to all HIPAA regulations and maintain strict patient confidentiality.
  • To timely and courteously assist clients with the check-out process, ensuring strict adherence to all cash handling policies and procedures.
  • To report to work at the scheduled time, demonstrate consistent and regular attendance, and consistently work the duration of the scheduled shift
  • To monitor incoming faxes and emails
  • To ensure the working environment is neat, presentable and equipped with all necessary supplies (water, cups, paper, ink, pens)

Job Requirements & Preferences

  • High school diploma or GED, some college preferred
  • Minimum of two years' experience in customer service setting and six months customer experience experience in a health care setting.
  • Insurance Verification of Benefits (VOB) experience for at least 1 year is required
  • MENTAL HEALTH Insurance Verification of Benefits (VOB) experience for at least 6 months is required
  • Ability to properly utilize office equipment, including multi-line phones, computers and copy, fax and credit card machines, Office 365 applications and e-mail.
  • Experience using Simple Practice EHR, preferred
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly in person and on the phone, and establish/maintain cooperative relationships with clients, their families and co-workers
  • Ability to work varying hours as needed by the clinic, including some week-end hours.
  • Reliable personal transportation, automobile insurance and willingness to travel to other offices as needed.
