About the Role :

As a Solidworks certified CAD Technician you will become part of a small collegiate assembly team, commercializing best in class lighting products for the A&D community. You will be responsible for manufacturing support and completing the product release with assemblies and bill-of-material packages. Your talents in CAD design using Solidworks will elevate the evolving product line, taking into consideration performance, sustainability, and ease of assembly and LEAN manufacturing. Our LED lighting products are based on a patented optical system which brings a high level of function to the designed space.  These products must match that level of function with high quality assembly, precise form and defect-free finish.

Primary Responsibilities :

  • Perform variety of design for manufacturing (DFM) tasks associated with LED lighting products.
  • Completing product and work order-related design requirements prior to manufacturing.
  • Create sub-assemblies and top-level BOMs in Solidworks for release to assembly teams.
  • Develop detailed technical drawings and documentation for LED lighting specifications.
  • Create schematic / orthographic drawings to depict fixtures and assemblies for customer sign-off.
  • Support manufacturing and assembly testing through the build process.
  • Regular and thorough communication, detailing task process.
  • Maintain and grow a collaborative work environment within a cross-functional team.

Skills / Specifications :

  • A broad technical skill set with strong expertise in mechanical and electrical engineering, complemented with a practical hands-on skillset and good communication and teamwork is an excellent indicator of success.
  • Considerable skill in the design and preparation of CAD models, drawings, and technical specifications for manufacturing.
  • Strong working knowledge of Solidworks is required (Solidworks certifications a plus).
  • Ability to prepare complex CAD models and drawings from rough sketches, data, and oral instructions.
  • Expertise in time management and the ability to meet strict deadlines.
  • Numeracy and technical competencies (prepare technical data, understand specifications, and read drawings / blueprints).
  • Proficient level computer skills including Excel for design table implementation.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes for plastics and metals including : Extrusion, bending, injection molding, casting and CNC a plus.
  • Education and Experience :

  • Strong working knowledge of Solidworks. Solidworks Professional certification a strong plus.
  • Associate degrees or professional certifications are acceptable.
  • Preferably 3 years of product design and technical relevant experience.
  • Experience in LED lighting or a similar industry is a bonus.
