Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Supervision:
- Lead and manage a team of fiber splicing technicians, providing guidance and support to ensure high-quality performance.
- Assign daily tasks, manage workflows, and ensure team compliance with project specifications and safety standards.
- Train and mentor team members on fiber splicing techniques, safety protocols, and the use of splicing and testing equipment.
- Conduct daily safety meetings and enforce adherence to company safety policies.
- Fiber Splicing and Testing:
- Perform advanced fiber splicing, including fusion and mechanical splicing, for single-mode and multi-mode fiber optic cables.
- Conduct fiber testing using OTDR, power meters, and other diagnostic tools to ensure proper functionality.
- Troubleshoot and repair damaged fiber optic cables, connectors, and related components.
- Interpret and work with schematics, blueprints, and network maps to execute splicing and testing tasks accurately.
Project Coordination:
- Collaborate with project managers and other stakeholders to review project plans, schedules, and progress.
- Ensure the team meets deadlines and quality standards while staying within project budgets.
- Maintain accurate records of splicing and testing activities, including as-built documentation and test results.
- Manage inventory of fiber splicing tools, equipment, and materials, ensuring availability for project needs.
- General Duties:
- Ensure job sites are clean, organized, and safe.
- Assist with field inspections, quality control, and compliance checks as required.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, clients, and team members to address project updates and challenges.
Qualifications:
Education:
- High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or technical certification in telecommunications is a plus.
Experience:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in fiber splicing and testing, with at least 1-2 years in a leadership role.
- In-depth knowledge of fiber optic splicing techniques, testing procedures, and related equipment.
Skills:
- Proficiency in using fusion splicers, OTDR, power meters, and other fiber optic tools.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities.
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physical labor.
- Availability to work overtime, nights, and weekends, and travel as needed.
