We are seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to oversee and coordinate financial reporting functions for regional operations. This senior-level accounting role requires a strong understanding of GAAP, regulatory compliance, cost analysis, and financial reporting. The ideal candidate will work closely with senior management to analyze financial trends, support budgeting efforts, and maintain internal controls.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee financial accounting, budgeting, and job cost integrity for the region.
- Prepare, review, and analyze monthly financial reports to ensure accuracy in inventories, accounts receivable, and operating costs.
- Provide financial insights and collaborate with the Corporate Controller, CFO, and President.
- Identify cost reduction opportunities and assist in financial planning.
- Analyze job revenue, cost, and accrual data, ensuring proper accounting processes.
- Coordinate year-end inventory analysis, waste factor development, and standard inventory cost reporting.
- Participate in internal and external audits and acquisition-related accounting transitions.
- Monitor and oversee accounts receivable, collections, and financial data entry.
- Assist with budget preparation, forecasting, and financial planning.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory reporting requirements, including sales tax and highway use tax filings.
- Supervise administrative and financial staff, including hiring, training, and performance evaluations.
- Report financial results to Regional Manager and Corporate Controller.
- Implement regional and corporate-level financial policies and procedures.
- Assist with special projects as needed.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- 5 years of progressive accounting experience (required).
- Supervisory experience (preferred).
- Proficiency in GAAP, financial reporting, and cost accounting.
- Ability to analyze financial data, develop budgets, and prepare reports.
- Strong skills in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Experience with accounting software (JD Edwards preferred).
- Ability to interpret technical financial reports and legal documents.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to define issues, collect data, and draw valid conclusions.
- Strong communication skills for interacting with customers, regulatory agencies, and senior management.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment:
- Primarily office-based work with moderate noise levels.
- Ability to sit for extended periods while working on a computer.
- Occasional lifting of up to 35 pounds.
- Periodic travel with overnight stays as needed.
- Occasional site visits requiring walking over uneven terrain with exposure to dust, chemicals, and loud noise.
