Animal Therapy Program Handler
Job Position: Animal Therapy Handler
Reports to: VP of Programs and Operations
Qualifications:
- Hold current certifications in Animal Therapy Handling
- Possess an animal who is certified in Animal Therapy
- Have their own vehicle, insurance, and a driver's license
- Comfortable working with individuals' w/disabilities
- Able to drive to Berlin, Middletown, & West Hartford
- Able to pass background checks, required drug testing & being fingerprinted
Working Conditions/Physical Demands: Minimal lifting of Therapy Animal may be required. Must be able to meet the consumer/student needs that are to be fulfilled by the program. This may require walking, bending, standing, throwing etc. for an extended period of time. Must be able to communicate clearly and possess the ability to meet both student/consumer as well as animal needs.
Job Goal: To support the wellbeing of our consumers/students. This support will include working with consumers/students in classroom settings, agency offices or in the community.
Schedule: Part-Time w/Flexible Hours
Pay Rate: $25/hour
Duties:
- Works effectively with and maintains positive relationships with consumers, students, agency personnel, employers, and co-workers.
- Develop, maintain and alter therapy program schedules as needed
- Perform therapeutic services to consumers/students including but not limited to: Going for walks, playing fetch or other games, reading to the animal, grooming the animal etc.
- Maintain PMT and CPR/First Aid certifications
- Obtains all necessary requirements to work at Futures School (Fingerprinting, Drug Screen, etc.)
- Maintain necessary certification for each animal and themselves as a handler
- Maintains all required vaccinations at veterinarian office of choice
- Maintains required insurance certificates as a handler
- Continue animal training to ensure proper behavior of animal
- Research new training methods and techniques
- Initiates and maintains relationships with outside entities to grow program
