About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Database Administrator (DBA) with expertise in AWS cloud services and data engineering to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for managing, maintaining, and securing our organization’s databases, ensuring data is stored, organized, and accessible for analysis and business operations. You will also play a key role in supporting cloud-based data integration, storage, and governance initiatives.
This is a remote position, but candidates must be available for on-demand support, including after-hours and during US Eastern Time Zone hours.
Key Responsibilities:Database Administration:
- Perform SQL Server monitoring and daily checks.
- Provide database support for scheduled deployments and troubleshooting issues.
- Automate tasks to reduce manual intervention and improve efficiency.
- Enforce ISO security requirements and policies, including conducting audits of database access.
- Upgrade older SQL versions to supported versions to leverage new security features.
- Manage OLTP and OLAP SQL Server environments.
- Provide Power BI and Snowflake administration and support.
- Perform database validations after VITA patching and troubleshoot non-standard job issues (e.g., network latency, blocking, outdated code).
- Provide after-hours DBA support for enhancements and break-fix scenarios.
- Perform unplanned database restores in collaboration with VITA.
Cloud Data Engineering and AWS Expertise:
- Perform data engineering activities on the cloud to support data integration, storage, consumption, and governance.
- Hands-on experience with AWS services, including S3, Aurora, DynamoDB, Snowflake, and RDS.
- Configure data management practices on AWS using native services like AWS Glue, AWS Data Zone, AWS Glue Data Catalog, API Gateway, and Lambda.
- Implement and manage modern cloud datastores like Snowflake to handle structured and unstructured data.
- Enable automation using scripting languages like Python or Node.js.
- Set up monitoring, logging, and alerting for cloud infrastructure to ensure system stability and performance.
- Optimize CI/CD pipelines for efficient deployments.
- Manage version control using tools like GitHub, Jenkins, and AWS Code Pipeline.
Collaboration and Governance:
- Collaborate with senior team members and business stakeholders to deliver robust, cloud-based data solutions.
- Support data governance activities to ensure data reliability, quality, and compliance with standards.
- Assist in designing scalable and resilient cloud engineering solutions aligned with business needs.
- Provide training and support to end-users to enhance data literacy and tool usage within the cloud data ecosystem.
Required Skills and Experience:
- 8 years of experience in database configuration and management tools.
- 7 years of experience in:
- Performance tuning, scripting, automation, and troubleshooting database issues.
- Database monitoring, security, and tuning.
- Data migration in large-scale enterprise environments and data synchronization/replication techniques.
- Handling multiple tasks and prioritizing effectively.
- 5 years of hands-on experience with:
- AWS database services (S3, Aurora, DynamoDB, Snowflake, RDS).
- Configuring data management practices on AWS using native services (AWS Glue, AWS Data Zone, AWS Glue Data Catalog, API Gateway).
- Version control tools like GitHub, Jenkins, and AWS Code Pipeline.
- Proficiency in SQL Server, Power BI, and Snowflake administration.
- Familiarity with scripting languages like Python or Node.js.
- Strong understanding of data governance and cloud-based data solutions.
