What are the responsibilities and job description for the Staff Writer (External) position at FWI (FedWriters, Inc.)?
FedWriters is building a team to support NAVSEA's communications and public affairs operations at the Washington Navy Yard. As a Staff Writer, you will create feature articles, news products, and editorial content for diverse audiences including Congress, DoD, industry stakeholders, and the general public while ensuring all information is accurate and effectively communicated.

**This position is contingent upon contract award**
Work Schedule and Location:
On-Site: This full-time on-site position will work Monday through Friday, 8am to 4:30pm at the Washington Navy Yard, 1333 Isaac Hull Avenue, Washington, DC.
- Authors feature and straight news writing products and provides editorial support directed to a wide range of audiences; including: Members of Congress, Department of Defense (DOD), industry stakeholders and the general public.
- Products include but are not limited to: reports, fact sheets, press releases, website or social media and brochures.
- Consults with appropriate subject matter experts to ensure information is presented accurately.
Required Qualifications;
- Minimum of four (4) years of civilian or military experience in corporate communications
- Bachelor of Arts/Science degree in English or Communications or other related field
- Secret security clearance is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience to write and edit news copy (articles, social media posts, et cetera) according to Navy and Associated Press Stylebook
- Experience to synthesize complex ideas and initiatives into easily understood communications for a variety of audiences
- Experience in managing small and large-scale projects that contribute to a larger strategic communications plan
- Experience to manage competing priorities under strict deadlines while maintaining a high level of attention to detail
- Experience to work effectively with NAVSEA's senior leaders in a high-profile and demanding office
- Experience with NAVSEA, Congress, the Navy and Department of Defense
