Description of Role:
The Engineering Support Associate, is an entry-level, cross-functional role designed to support the development of technical talent within FXC and Guardian Parachute. This position will learn to provide on-the-job training across both divisions, with a focus on understanding the design, function, assembly, and testing of mechanical and electro-mechanical products and parachute systems. The associate will gain hands-on experience working with life-critical safety items (CSI), and will collaborate with engineering, quality, and production teams to support the continued development and reliability of FXC and Guardian Parachute’s safety technologies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Documenting engineered systems for and with engineers
- Suggesting improvements in work processes to increase efficiencies
- Work with engineers to plan, design, evaluate, and improve the performance manufacturing processes.
- Analyze blueprints and review engineered drawings for accuracy
- Test and evaluate the performance of equipment, materials, or systems
- Identify solutions to design problems
- Conduct surveys to collect data items built by FXC and/or Guardian Parachute
- Prepare reports that document project activities and testing results, and recommend changes for product improvement
- Gain familiarity with software and systems used to simulate and test parachute behavior and deployment electronics
- Shadow engineers and technicians to gain exposure to activation mechanisms, sensor integration, descent rate detection, and black box data collection systems
- Identify and resolve any discrepancies or issues with Engineering designs
- Strong and effective communication skills with experience explaining technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences, especially relaying technical details
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field
- Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Ability to explain complex technical details in a clear, easy-to-understand manner.
- Must be able to read drawings/blueprints
- Knowledge of good manufacturing practices and documentation is required
- Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram formats.
Physical Demands
- Ability to regularly stand, walk, and lift up to 25 lbs. occasionally.
- Comfortable working in both office settings and production/manufacturing environments.
