G.H. Forbes Associates Architects in Royal Oak is seeking to immediately hire a full-time Designer to join our team of ten. We specialize in a wide range of Public Sector work and Commercial projects with an assortment of repeat clients, which include the Detroit Zoological Society and branches of the State & Federal Government. We are fortunate to have meaningful projects in historic buildings in Detroit, including on Belle Isle.

The Designer will be involved in all aspects of design and the construction of small to medium-sized projects under the guidance of a Principal Architect. You will have the opportunity to work in close association with our consulting team of structural, MEP, and civil engineers. Applicants should be comfortable speaking with consultants and staff, providing written documentation of the project, and have a positive attitude with a willingness to learn. As a small firm, each team member has the opportunity to experience and contribute to all aspects of design and construction administration. This position also requires that the individual be highly organized as they would be working on more than one project at a time.

Responsibilities :

Prepare, coordinate and draft construction documents

Advise and assist Principal Architect or Project Manager of project requirements, schedule and budget

Coordinate work and collaborate through written communication and direct discussions with consultants and clients to ensure integrated project documents, standards and goals are met

Assist with cost estimating and product selection

Assist with Code, Zoning and Historic Building research

Assist Principal Architect or Project Manager with construction administrative duties including responding to RFI’s, reviewing shop drawings, and assisting with construction observation

Requirements :

Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture

Minimum 1 to 2 years of experience at an architecture firm

Proficient in AutoCAD, Microsoft Office Suite

Experience with Revit, Bluebeam, SketchUp, InDesign and Photoshop

Excellent written and verbal communication

Strong organizational skills
