Customs Compliance Specialist, G-III Apparel Group

Job Objective:
The Customs Compliance Specialist is responsible for providing administrative support for corporate global customs compliance. This role involves implementing policies and procedures to mitigate risk and ensure import and export laws adherence. The Customs Compliance Specialist will work closely with various departments to provide guidance on trade compliance matters and develop strategies to optimize international trade operations.
Job Responsibilities:
- Assist Customs Compliance Manager with implementation of corporate global customs compliance to ensure conformity with international customs regulations and applicable international laws
- Research, analyze, assign and maintain global Harmonized Tariff Schedule classifications for apparel, footwear, accessories and miscellaneous items.
- Manage customs clearance remediation with US & International customs brokers
- Respond to compliance inquiries from appointed import/export agents and internal parties
- Ensure implementation of effective internal procedures and controls to mitigate and manage compliance risks
- Perform internal trade compliance audits, reporting results and recommendations for improvement
- Assist with educating and conducting internal employee training on classification assignments, maintaining corporate compliance program requirements and adherence to best practices.
- Provide internal support and guidance on trade agreements, tariff engineering and duty rate details
- Support and assist with Customs issues i.e. Post summary corrections, Customs audits, Customs notice, etc.
- Participate in Customs Compliance projects and initiatives i.e. compliance program sops, hand carry processing, reconciliation, duty drawback, assist declaration, etc.
Job Requirements and Skills:
- 3 years’ experience in the apparel & footwear import logistics/customs compliance field
- Advanced expertise, experience and proficiency in the US Harmonized Tariff schedule and tariff classification assignment is required.
- Ability to interpret customs regulations to assess applicability and ensure compliance with requirements
- Experience in evaluation of assists for imported product
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
- Strong analytical, written and verbal communication skills and ability to utilize resources at hand to problem-solve
- Detail oriented, open-minded individual that is flexible and accepts change willingly
- Strong ability to organize, balance multiple priorities simultaneously and manage time appropriately
- Must be able to set and meet aggressive deadlines
- Must be able to work independently, maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism
- Proficient with Microsoft Suite of products and ERP systems
