Job Description:
The Construction Manager will plan, coordinate, and supervise all construction activities on-site for projects. This role involves managing the construction team, subcontractors, and other key stakeholders to ensure that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality and safety standards. The Construction Manager is responsible for the successful completion of all activities related to the execution of assigned Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) projects. In addition, as a CM, you will contribute to the overall administration and technical direction, coordination, and direct line responsibilities for field construction, including maintaining and ensuring safety and security training, compliance, and making safety and security an integral part of every task, including taking the necessary steps to stop work if continuing the job is unsafe or compromises security. This position demands a strong on-site and in-field presence, to successfully manage the execution of assigned projects.
The Manager of Construction is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all aspects of construction projects. Key duties include reviewing project estimates, budgets, and schedules for acceptability, resolving staffing and material delivery issues, and collaborating with various departments such as Project Management, Engineering, Procurement, and Project Controls. They provide guidance to Site Managers, ensure adherence to field procedures, and participate in developing project plans and schedules. The role also involves monitoring costs, staffing project teams, conducting performance reviews, and ensuring the proper training is implemented. Additionally, they may act as a Control Account Manager (CAM), handling cost, schedule, and performance analysis, and reporting project status to stakeholders. Successful candidates must possess strong leadership and technical construction management skills.
Experience:
Position requires a bachelor’s degree in an Engineering or Scientific discipline from an accredited institution and 8 years related experience or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. A degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or Project Management may be preferred. Experience as a contractor for the Department of Energy (DOE) managing construction projects or functional portfolios. Experience working under nuclear quality standards (NQA-1, etc.). PMP or other formal project management training desired but not required.
