Description:
The Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring compliance with industry standards, driving continuous improvement initiatives, and supporting production to maintain the highest level of quality. This role involves developing and implementing quality control systems, conducting inspections and audits, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to resolve quality issues. The Quality Engineer will analyze data, perform root cause analysis, and recommend corrective actions to improve manufacturing processes and ensure product reliability. Additionally, this position requires a strong understanding of aerospace quality standards, inspection techniques, and regulatory requirements to maintain compliance with AS9100.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and maintain quality control systems to ensure compliance with aerospace industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) for nonconformances and process deviations.
- Perform and oversee inspections of materials, components, and finished products, ensuring adherence to engineering drawings and specifications.
- Lead first article inspections (FAI) per AS9102 standards and support audits to maintain compliance with ISO and AS9100 requirements.
- Analyze quality data, generate reports, and provide recommendations for process improvements.
- Collaborate with production, engineering, and supply chain teams to resolve quality issues and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions for quality control processes.
- Support supplier quality management by conducting audits, evaluations, and performance reviews.
- Ensure calibration of measuring instruments and testing equipment to maintain accuracy and reliability.
- Participate in internal and external audits and ensure corrective actions are effectively implemented.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Experience in quality engineering, quality assurance, or manufacturing process improvement, preferably in the aerospace industry.
- Strong understanding of quality control standards, AS9100, ISO 9001, and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Proficiency in using measurement devices (e.g., micrometers, calipers, gauges) and familiarity with GD&T.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and specifications.
- Experience with root cause analysis tools such as 8D, Fishbone Diagram, or 5 Whys.
- Knowledge of statistical process control (SPC) and quality assurance methodologies.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems for quality tracking (a plus).
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
- Work is performed in both office and manufacturing environments, requiring the ability to move between settings.
- Prolonged standing for extended periods of time will be required, along with occasional walking, bending, and lifting.
- May be exposed to loud noises, machinery, and airborne particles in a production facility.
- Must be able to lift materials up to 50 lbs as needed.
- Regular use of standard office equipment, including computers, printers, and measuring tools.
- May require occasional travel to suppliers or external audits.
