Manager/Yard Jockey

Job Summary
We are seeking a reliable and skilled Manager/Yard Jockey to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for transporting goods safely and efficiently to a single destination in a yard hostler as well as putting trailers in a door at the main warehouse This role requires a strong commitment to safety, excellent driving skills, and the ability to manage a lumping crew as well as load trailers and be available in emergency situations as the driving will be minimal. The Manager/Driver will play a crucial role in ensuring the highest standards of service.

Duties

• Operate a yard truck to move trailers from door to door and site to site.
• Load and unload cargo as necessary, ensuring proper handling and securing of materials.
• Follow designated routes for delivery while adhering to all traffic laws and safety regulations.
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle to ensure it is in safe operating condition.
• Manage a crew of lumpers ensuring they are safely and effectively loading and unloading freight. Also hiring/firing employees as needed.
• Communicate effectively with dispatchers and customers regarding delivery schedules and any potential delays.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in truck driving with a strong understanding of route driving principles.
• Ability to be available 24/7 to ensure everything is being taken care of.
• Strong knowledge of safety regulations related to truck driving and freight transportation.
• Excellent time management skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines.
• Strong communication skills for effective interaction with team members and clients.
• Ability to lift heavy loads (up to 50 pounds) as required during loading and unloading processes.
