GADABOUT TRANSPORTATION SERVICES, INC.
A Transportation Service for Adults over 55 and People with a Disability within Tompkins County
(NON-EXEMPT) DRIVER JOB DESCRIPTIONTraining will be provided if necessary.
Drivers report to the Manager of Driver Operations and the Executive Director.
This position requires working outside of the office in vehicles.
Assigned duties must be completed without a great deal of supervision.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Drive a small bus, assist passengers on and off vehicle from pickup point and into their destination.
2. Secure wheelchairs and mobility devices to vehicle using securement devices.
3. Learn to use computer schedules efficiently.
4. Keep written records on mileage, number of passengers, fares, and fuel usage.
5. Check the operating condition of the bus before starting trips; reporting any mechanical defect to immediate supervisor.
6. Complete mandatory trainings as required.
7. Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:Must possess a commercial driver’s license with passenger endorsement to carry up to 14 passengers. (CDL Class A, B, or C. With a P endorsement). We will provide training if needed.
- Must be able to meet the requirements contained in Article 19-A of the N.Y. State Vehicle and Traffic Law.
- Good knowledge of driving safety practices and traffic laws and regulations; ability to operate a bus under all driving and road conditions.
- Complete Gadabout training, testing, orientation, and review of policy and procedure manual.
- Understand how best to help people with a disability and older passengers on and off the vehicle.
- Neat appearance.
- Ability to deal courteously and effectively with passengers.
- Must possess initiative, resourcefulness, tact, good judgment, mental alertness, emotional and mental stability.
- Ability to work independently and dependably.
- Physical condition must be commensurate with the demands on the position i.e. bending over, pushing, getting in and out of bus.
- Must pass a DOT Physical at least every 2 years, or as indicated by a DOT certified medical examiner.
- Practice good communication skills with office staff concerning passenger schedule changes or other issues.
- Maintain bus and leave in proper order at end of each shift i.e. remove personal items and pick up securement devices.
- A good sense of humor is desirable.
