Essential Duties and Responsibilities

DUTIES:


  • General carpentry, light electrical, light plumbing in remodeling existing facilities. Uses hand tools and carpentry tools to remodel/renovate.
  • Perform electrical repairs and maintenance necessary to ensure safe and continuous operation of support systems.
  • Installs and repairs conduit, wiring, etc.
  • Operates on occasion, such light equipment as forklifts, trucks, jack hammers, and loading equipment as may be provided to aid job accomplishment in accordance with the employee’s competence.
  • Makes minor repairs and services autos, trucks, tractors, mowers, and other equipment.
  • Uses tractor as necessary.
  • Complies with all policies of the Alabama Community College System and the College.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Graduation from high school or GED certificate. required.
  • Three (3) years of experience in general maintenance work involving the building, electrical, or mechanical trades required.
  • Experience in servicing, troubleshooting, and installing electrical equipment required.
  • License in specific fields (i.e., contracting, plumbing, etc.) may be required for certain positions.
  • Friendly personality; enthusiastic, positive attitude; evidence of trustworthiness and ethical conduct; effective human relations skills; strong work ethic.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of general carpentry and building repair.
  • Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and practices used in building, electrical or mechanical trades.
  • Knowledge of the applicable electrical standards and codes.
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the electrical trade
  • Ability to use and maintain the tools and equipment of the trades involved.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Sufficient physical strength to permit the performance of manual tasks; ability to lift 50 pounds from the ground; ability to lift arms above the head.
  • Ability to walk for extended periods of time; ability to walk up and down stairs and climb up and down ladders.

SALARY:
Salary Schedule E-4, Grade 05 - $34,298 – $51,793 based on previous full-time and related experience, as submitted by the candidate in the application packet, subject to verification upon hire.

Sick Leave
All regular full-time non-instructional staff earns one day of sick leave which is the equivalent of 8 hours of sick leave per month. Unused sick leave is rolled over to the following year. Upon retirement, employees are allowed to convert unused sick time into service time for the purpose of retirement. Further retirement benefits may be found on this page under Alabama Teacher's Retirement.

Up to 10 days a year of professional development leave with pay may be granted by the President.

Retirement
The TRS was established in 1939 to provide benefits to qualified persons employed by state-supported educational institutions. Responsibility for the management and administration of the TRS is vested in its Board of Control. The Boards of Control elect the Secretary-Treasurer who serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the RSA and is responsible for the day-to-day management of the RSA. The TRS is a defined benefit plan qualified under Section 401(a) of the Internal Revenue Code. All regular full-time and part-time employees (non-temporary and non- student) who work at least 20 hours per week are required to participate in The Teachers' Retirement System of Alabama.
Tier I - Pays 7.50% monthly. State matches 13.57% (effective 10/01/24)
Tier II – Pays 6.20% monthly. State matches 12.60% (effective 10/01/24)
Law Enforcement Officers:
Tier I-Pays 8.50% monthly. State matches 13.57% (effective 10/01/24)
Tier II- Pays 7.20% monthly. State matches 12.60% (effective 10/01/24)

Health Insurance
PEEHIP, established in 1983, provides health insurance benefits for active and retired education employees and is governed by the PEEHIP Board of Control.
