This Summer 2025 Electro-Mechanical Engineering Internship is a paid intern experience that will be based in our San Jose location. This is a unique opportunity to work closely with the GAF Energy R&D team who lead the research, development and innovation of next generation solar roofing. This is an opportunity to work on forward looking research projects. We are looking for an intern who is highly motivated, naturally curious, and has a passion for power conversion for solar energy, to join us for a 8-10 week internship opportunity where they will have the chance to learn about solar BIPV, R&D, applications of power electronics in this field.
What will you be doing?
The candidate will develop HMI software to interface data acquisition tools with environmental test chambers. The software will provide capabilities to configure the data acquisition tools, interface the data acquisition with the chambers, control the chamber operation and collection of data and store the data. The candidate will also be responsible for drawing and supervising the fabrication of interface panels as well as ordering necessary hardware. The candidate will also be responsible for some of the mechanical assembly of the system.
The candidate will also explore the analysis of accelerated environmental testing data and its implications on the reliability of photovoltaic devices.

What do we require from you?
- Requirements Senior or graduate student in electrical, mechanical or computer science engineering with a strong background in both hardware and software development.
- Excellent Python programming skills, including HMI development, test instrument interfaces, electro mechanical controls, data acquisition, processing and storage and network interfacing.
- Understanding of basic controls theory.
- Understanding of basic electrical and electronics circuit theory
- Able to understand and generate basic circuit diagrams.
- Ability to solder and interconnect electronic components including logic level and AC power.
- Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings
- Proficient in CAD development desirable.
- Basic skills with hand tools and hand held power tools.
- Ability to understand and analyze electrical and mechanical test data.
