This Summer 2025 Material Engineer Internship is a paid intern experience that will be based in our San Jose location. This is a unique opportunity to work closely with the GAF Energy R&D team who lead the research, development and innovation of next generation solar roofing. This is an opportunity to work on forward looking research projects. We are looking for an intern who is highly motivated, naturally curious, and has a passion for power conversion for solar energy, to join us for a 8-10 week internship opportunity where they will have the chance to learn about solar BIPV, R&D, applications of power electronics in this field.
What will you be doing?
The intern will conduct material-level and module-level testings, analyze data to guide product optimization or future product development. This could involve a variety of testings such as mechanical, thermal, chemical, optical, electrical and reliability tests. (Training will be provided) The intern will prepare samples, set up & conduct experiments, collect the data, analyze data to draw conclusions, document the testing process and results, and present the learnings to a larger audience at the end of the internship.

What do we require from you?
- Working towards/ having bachelors or masters in a technical field, preferably in materials, polymers, chemistry, chemical engineering. Lab experience preferred.
- Fundamental understanding of composite material and polymer is a plus
- Communication skills and technical writing for preparing report/ presentation
- Critical thinking ability and analytical skills
- Resiliency and ability to adapt to a fast paced environment
- Microsoft excel PowerPoint, G-suite, JMP/ Minitab
